Buffalo with the beastly strike - did I miss something??

ad4400ad4400 Posts: 2,042 ✭✭✭✭✭

The piece below is graded 63 by PCGS. I thought it was super nice for the grade, and had an absolutely phenomenal strike. Check out the depth of the strike in the hair immediately above the braid for example. Opening bid was Average auction. I was the only bidder, which makes me wonder if I missed something. Thoughts?

    That's near or is a full strike. I don't see any problems. Maybe it wasn't "shiny" enough for them.

    I wouldn't worry about missing anything, Alain.

    You didn't. You bought it!

    Other than a little blurry reverse photo, I don't see any problems. Nice score;

    Strike is only one leg of the chair. Perhaps a tiny bit of rub + dull luster?

    Nice looking Buff...though there does appear to be some obverse rub..... and that could be the picture(s)....Cheers, RickO

    Nice coin. (Sharp photos would make it nicer, too. :) )

    '17 buffalos seem to be well struck, as yours is. I believe it to be nicer than 63 from the photos which seem to be dullled. I am guessing it is a lot flashier in hand.

    Graded as a 3, because of the luster, or lack thereof

    Nice strike ... but below average eye appeal (based on the images).

    For those of you that thought along the lines that while I did not miss something, perhaps the image did, bingo! Seller kicked and screamed saying his images were accurate and that he was entitled to restocking fee. EBay felt otherwise. Case in my favor. Back it goes. Note the huge scratches that I have pointed red arrows to. Amazing it graded at all.

    I think the pictures that were posted were purposefully shot like that. I can see you wanting to send the coin back, but it did holder, and that's a superb strike.

    It's all water under the bridge now.

    The rims have quite a few nicks, I was wondering if there were hidden nicks or scraps and I see you found a couple on the reverse.

    His reverse picture is not of the coin you received. Look at the spot at the rim just above the buffalo tail. Not present in your picture. There's no way you can blur out a scratch like that either. There's enough detail in his reverse picture to see a scratch of that magnitude.

    Cheers

    The blurry reverse was obviously intentional. Many pictures on eBay are meant to hide defects like this one. Not a good idea to buy on eBay without aan acceptable return policy. Perhaps you should give "credit" to the eBay seller????
