That would be a mega find if it was real. There was just a fake Morgan posted (can't remember the date off hand) that was almost impossibly clashed like that one. @messydesk@dcarr
.
if it were an authentic usa coin, it would probably be the number 1 clashed peace dollar known.
there are some spectacularly clashed modern counterfeits out there as well.
i'd be ok with having a few for study (a few different ways/reasons) and enjoy the visual aesthitics/overlays etc.
the weight of a peace dollar is supposed to be 26.730 grams. Weight Tolerance (+/-), 0.097 grams.
i don't usually subscribe to the drop test but if you acquire a real peace dollar, drop them both on a solid but safe surface and listen to the different. it will be, well, noticeable.
you can find some overlay images that will show normal orientation for clashing comp, and several sites have them, for your study/convenience.

What do you think the coin is composed of that makes it so light? It certainly has a silver "look" to it. I picked it off eBay for $30 based on a satellite photo, so risk was minimal, and I can return it anyway. I am thinking of keeping it as a novelty.

i don't know exactly as i'm sure different compositions are used for different counterfeits.
antimony is a term used, pot metal (several types of junk metal together), etc. - whatever is cheap, works and is available for the majority of counterfeits. they do seem to be increasing in quality from what i've seen and i've not been much into as of late.
there is a thread by dcarr, iirc, that shows a counterfeit pressed with his coin striking machine and the coin (counterfeit) essentially cracked/burst because it appeared to simply be pressed stock (odd). reminded me of (formica? can't find image of mineral that breaks apart in layers easily) or the like.

PMD. I'll take it off your hands for slightly below melt if you cover shipping.
In all seriousness though, that's gorgeous I love it. Never seen one until now.
Counterfeit, but still a cool clash.

Well, the seller did not want them back, so I got to keep them as novelties anyway!
Cool, would like to see a pic of that. Would think that would be a Top 50 VAM!
