I would like a different set of eyes to look and tell me what the date says on this penny.

I know its not in good condition but If its what it looks like I would like to send it in to be looked at. Its copper. I did the magnet and weight test on it.. But the odds .....

    Reverse?
    194?D
That is a beautiful coin IMHO, I really like it for some strange reason.

Unfortunately you'll never know until you know. It certainly looks authentic 1943 and if it is copper, the best place to get a confirmation is right here at PCGS . If authentic, its much too valuable to play around with. Bite the bullet and get it in to submissions right away. It is a very low cost high return decision. $25.00 to authenticate a $60,000.00 dollar coin is very very good investment. No matter how many people respond and tell you it is or it isn't, that tingling at the base of your spine is not going to go away. It will remain until one of the top professional graders here says yes it is or no its not. That's definitive.
On a personal note, If I had that coin, I don't think I'd be able to wait thru the weekend to get it submitted. I'd have to know is it or isn't it ?

    Looks like 1943 D.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

The odds are so greatly against that coin being genuine that I wouldn't bother. It may not even be verifiable in its current state. Hang on to it and maybe show it to some experts in person whenever you go to a show.

    Someone intentionally mutilated it.
It a 40 something but not a 3 for sure.

Impossible to tell if it's a 1943 coin or not. It could be a mutilated 1942 or 1947.

Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

@twiztedsteel ..... Welcome aboard.... It is likely not a '43 copper.... however, for a reasonable fee, you can have it evaluated and get a final determination. You have about the same chance as winning the lottery... that being said, if you do not play, you cannot win. ;) Cheers, RickO

I would take it to a major show if I could, and ask somebody like Randy Campbell at ANACS or ICG where they offer free screenings/opinions. Not only will you get expert eyes, but also some commentary about how or why the coin's date looks like that, if it is not genuine.

IMO, the coin is genuine, just not a '43

    @totally

I saw this diagnostic on TV: With the mintmark in that position, it can only be a corroded 1942-D! :)

I would agree with you there. Of course I meant a genuine 1943 copper.

I assure you, no third party grading service that guarantees authenticity would ever call that a 1943.

These are too rare not to have them authenticated. Very few are ever sold that remain raw and unslabbed.
