Early photograph of Abraham Lincoln.....

thebeavthebeav Posts: 3,778 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was on some odd website and saw this photo. It was claimed to be a picture of Lincoln from around 1840.
If it really is, I have to say, I would have never recognized him.

I don't believe that to be Abe. Lincoln, must be a typo.

The ears and eyes kinda give him away, but I would agree on the younger face is almost unidentifiable.

Maybe this was Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter!

The nose is wrong. I don't think it is Lincoln. The 1840 date is likely wrong as well. The mid-1840s is more likely for a nice sharp daguerreotype portrait with clear (unblinked) eyes. Exposure times in 1840 were still very long and getting sharp eyes was very difficult. (The daguerreotype photo process had only been revealed to the public on August 19, 1839.)

    All glory is fleeting.

I do not believe the first photograph to be Lincoln... nose is wrong as is the shape of the head. Cheers, RickO

Bill Jones posted the correct earliest photo. A copy hangs in my study.

Two years before he married Mary Todd. So that would make sense.

Look at the ear placement - it's not even close.

Recently they found a new pic of Billy the Kid, and it was headlines everywhere. This story of a possible Lincoln pic is from 2010. If this was really a new pic of Lincoln, it would have been front page headlines then and continuous ongoing interest.

    That pic isn't Abraham Lincoln.
