Worn ASE. Can't see date.
1923 Peace Dollar. Why is the obverse worn so much more than the reverse?

The Peace dollar may have spent time in a mount with the reverse protected and the obverse exposed, abraded and/or occasionally polished. The ASE is something I would stay away from as it seems like a good way of passing off a counterfeit.

Counterfeit ASE? That never crossed my mind.

That is a very good reason why it might work.

Me neither...but how do you think it got like that??
Pocket piece I guess but still seems super worn in a short time.
My first thought was rock tumbler, but those coins are usually very bright, this one isn't.

Belt buckle where Liberty is facing out?
Pocket piece that the guy liked rubbing on the obverse more than the reverse???
I just cannot see the attraction these coins engender.....Cheers, RickO
A mount does seem likely.

My original thought was the Peace Dollar being set into a bar obverse up. That would explain the rubbing and nicer reverse.

I have one that is dated 1909. No , that is not a type.
I took pictures of a "Proof" ASE that was in the government box complete with the certificate of authenticity. The trouble was the coin was a Chinese fake. Crooks were buying the boxes and COAs that were left over after the coins were sent in for certification.
The fake was so bad that the silver colored plating was chipping off in the the capsule.
