My first FUN show experience and a few of my Capped Bust Halves...

It was my first FUN show and only my second show ever, with last year’s ANA in Denver being my first. I’ve decided to finally take care of myself for once and start going to shows, and I’m so glad I made this decision.
The FUN show for me was amazing! Not so much for buying coins, but for the camaraderie and meeting of other collectors and dealers. I had the pleasure of finally meeting and talking with Gayle of JJTeaparty. Very sweet and always a pleasure to deal with. I also got a chance to finally meet Warren Mills of Rare Coins of New Hampshire. He helped me put together my Liberty Nickel set years ago which I collected prior to moving on to Capped Bust Halves. He has a great eye and I have such great respect for his opinion on anything I show him. He’s a huge wealth of information and always willing to look at anything you bring him. I’ve learned so much from him over the years. I’ve bought some Bust Halves from him in the past as well and they were all top notch. I also spent quite a bit of time at Sheridan Downey’s table during the show as lots of other Bust Half Nut club members were there. Loved hearing the stories about the old legendary club members who have since passed on. Didn’t bid on any of Sheridan’s coins in his MB auction but had a chance to preview the lots...amazing coins, for sure!
I also visited Dave Kahn’s table, where I picked up a nicely toned 1811 Small 8 in PCGS AU50, sorry no pics as I’m photographically challenged, lol. He’s always great to talk to and has lots of great coins to drool over. I also spent some time with and finally met Brian Cushing of Dick Osburn Rare Coins. I’ve bought a couple of Bust Halves from him recently and he was very nice to talk with. Across from Sheridan’s table was Rich Uhrich and Dick Graham. It was my first time meeting Rich. Great guy and lots of eye candy at his table. He showed me this incredibly toned Kennedy half that was breathtaking! I’ve met Dick before but spent some time talking with him about some of his favorite Bust Halves, a few of which I’m quite fortunate to have in my set. Nearby was Phil Hinkelman of Eye Appealing Coins. I’ve bought several halves from him in the past as well and all were phenomenal, hence why the name of his business is so appropriate. Really nice guy to deal with too. I also stopped by NFC’s table and sat down for awhile and chatted about Bust Halves with Matt. This guy is not only great to talk to but is brilliant when it comes to knowing how to grade coins of all series. He is also putting together a Registry set of unbelievably high grade bust halves, a couple of which he had with him. I bought one bust half from them in the past and was very pleased with it.
While at the FUN show, I attended the JRCS and BHNC meetings. The JRCS meeting discussed cuds and was quite educational. The BHNC meeting lecture was great too and was all about collecting Bust halves and discusssed several of the important CBH collections starting with the Getty sale in 1977. I then attended the PCGS Luncheon. They had some really good food there and I heard Don Willis talk about the Gold Shield holder and what PCGS is trying to do to help stop counterfeiting. I also met and the chance to talk with Don for a bit on the bourse about when was a collector and was putting together his Premium set of CBH’s. I showed him my 1814 E/A Bust Halves I brought for regrading and heard about the story when he first acquired his PCGS 58 example of this very tough Redbook variety. Really nice guy and a pleasure to talk with.
While at the show I talked with and spent some time hanging out with several friends/forum members...lkeigwin, UltraHighRelief, EastonCollection, GoBust, RichUhrich, Spacehayduke, and probably a few others I’m forgetting, sorry.
While at the show I submitted several Bust Halves for regrading and got several to upgrade which I was quite pleased with, but I also decided to try the Reconsideration service for the very first time for some of my AU58 Halves in order to get some pluses. I submitted 6 of my nicer AU58 halves and was very happy to have received 3 pluses on the coins below.
Overall, it was an amazing show and one I won’t soon forget. Can’t wait to go back next year!

Really nice report. Looks like you had a great time!
Thanks for the report and great looking coins.
Just curious, why did you submit some of your Busts as a reconsideration rather then all of them as a regrade?
I submitted them because I am thinking of starting an Everyman Registry Set and thought the 6 halves I sent in were very nice for the 58 grade.

Sounds like you had a blast and you got to meet some coin brothers at the same time. I’ve gotta say I find your CBH’s very attractive just to say the least. I think next year I’ll plan on going to the fun show. Sounds like, Fun
Great report my friend
Great report......I wish I had know you were there. I would love to meet you sometime. I got to meet several new members at this show. It's always great to meet members and put a face to the avatar.
Dave, thanks for the report. You've convinced me to block out the dates for next years show! Congratulations on your upgrades! Great coins and photos, too!

It just struck me as funny, putting together a set of CBH's in 58 and 58+, and having it called an "Everyman Set"...I'd sure like to be one of those everymen. Lol!
I totally agree about it being great to finally put a face to the avatar. I plan on going to the ANA in Philly next August. I hope we can meet up then Dimeman.
Dave
I love all your coins. Great show report.
