You can tell by the responses that your coin is probably not worth grading.

It would have to be MS68 in order to be worth the grading fees. Common up to and including MS67. Yours appears to be in the 65-66 range from what I can see. Keep looking! A MS68 would be a grand or so in price if you can find one!!

You know what, Let's think this out together. Say it costs between $19 and $36+ for grading and postage both ways. Many of us have a jar we toss these coins into so there may be some older dated coins in as new mint red condition.
You are one of the lucky one's to have one. Now consider the big picture:

    1. Even common coins with "monster mintages" are worth (?) - often sell for high prices to collectors who are forming a collection. These coins need to be in virtually perfect condition, MS-68 or higher. Your coin is not that nice

    2. Asking if ANY COIN is worth grading is a question that depends on the individual and the "why." Someone forming a collection may like your coin and want it in a slab at any grade. To me it is spending money. Nevertheless, fifty years from now, the decedents of the collector who had the coin slabbed may be pleasantly surprised at its value.

Now for a very short grading lesson. If you can look at a modern coin dated after 2000 and see more than one very tiny mark on it, it is probably not worth the cost of slabbing UNLESS you wish to for whatever the reason. Note; There are many exceptions to this. You'll need to learn for yourself or with a numismatic mentor what they are.

Unless you are a true grading expert when it comes to the recent issue coins don't bother with sending anything in. Mistakes are expensive in that game.

    Probably MS-65, Red.

    The "problem spots?"

    • The scratch below "IN" in "IN GOD WE TRUST."
    • spots in back of Lincoln's head
    • scratch the the left of Lincoln's hair.
    • scratch in front of Lincoln's mouth
    • What appears to be clatter in the the word "LIBERTY."

It's a nice coin that is better for the date....and it does have spots.......witch all newer coins have...and some dings.

I can understand you wanting to slab it.

It's not worth the fees, though.

Definitely not worth slabbing.... but by asking the question - and posting the pictures - it helps you to learn. Modern cents, such as yours, must be 68 or higher to warrant submitting... that would appear 'perfect' to most viewers. Cheers, RickO
