Sutler Token- 3rd Michigan Cavalry

Here is one of my sutler tokens. This one is my avatar picture. It was made for J.A. Leggat who was the sutler for the 3rd Michigan Cavalry. He was the only issuer of sutler tokens in Michigan and issued 3 different denominations. This one is graded NGC MS-65 BN and is a rarity 6. It was formerly in the collection of Steve Tanenbaum and Rich Irons.

Nice looking piece, both condition and design. Do we know who designed and struck this?

@Zoins Unfortunately, I do not know who designed and struck it. I will look into it!

Beautiful Sutler token there. Steve Tanenbaum sure put together one hell of a collection over his lifetime. With the liquidation of his holdings over the past few years, it has certainly been a big opportunity to add exquisite high grade and rare material to one's own collection. Some might say, "Once in a lifetime." Many people do not understand how incredibly rare some of these pieces are.
    Congrats

Given the importance of Tanenbaum's collection, and it's liquidation over a few years, is there any record of his set? It might be nice for someone to put together a legacy registry set for him.

His collection of Civil War Store Cards and Patriotic Tokens were bought by Steve Hayden and Q. David Bowers. Steve Hayden bought his collection of Sutler Tokens. I purchased this one from Steve Hayden about two months ago. Also, there is a memorial website that was created for Steve Tanenbaum. http://stevetanenbaum.com
