In ANACS tomb now. What would our hosts grade it? Traces of luster below the ear and around a couple of stars.

Without the dark spots I would grade it 35 shot 40.

I would think PCGS would call it a 40, but that depends on if there is enough luster according to them. Nice half.

Let us know if you send her in.

Around 40 or 35 on a bad day. Criteria on the dividing line between VF and XF are focused on wear on hair curls, etc.. https://www.pcgs.com/photograde/#/Capped50/Grades

EF-40 sharpness, but the black spots amount to environmental damage. The net grade is somewhere around VF-25. I don't think you would get a straight grades from a crack-out.

With regards to an 1831 Capped Bust Half, I always look at the motto above the eagle. Full strike motto.....Good coin. I've got my eye on one right now. Will I pull the trigger? Probably not.

I'm in the 40 crowd. I'm not crazy about the coin though.

I grade it $150. 35/40 details but not eye appealing.

Grade just posted...straight graded as VF30. A soak in acetone helped lots of the dark spots, but still seems a bit harsh. I dont have before-and-after photos just yet.
