That's a pretty offensive last part of your statement.

    Indeed.

It's ok to accidentally tackle by the hair if it's in the way but telling your players to purposely pull hair to make a tackle because YOU don't like dreads lacks spine.

Dreads are cool. I still wish I had enough hair to don them

Dreads are distracting. Want to grow them as a student then forget football and join the astronomy club instead.

Whey not dump the uniforms as well? Keep the team helmet to identify yourself to the QB but go with the fall off the butt ghetto pants. That would really make a statement.

I agree. If you don't want to be tackled by your long hair, cut it short. Otherwise, it's fair game. As long as it's not grabbing the helmet, all parts of body/uniform are literally up for grabs. I have always thought dreads/distracting long hair has been a "look at me" individualistic thing to do. Just one small way of putting yourself ahead of the team.

In 2017 we still have control of the television set. Pro sports either is of entertainment value or it is not. If one does not find it visually appealing then there is no point in watching. Better to watch the chubby guy that drives around looking for greasy diner food.

I would think tackling someone by their dreadlocks would incur a penalty (similar to a horse collar tackle) followed by a hefty fine and perhaps suspension. BTW I find myself watching much less NFL. Except for some top teams playing each other it seems to be boring.

Really there is nothing offensive about saying dreadlocks are nasty, it’s a personal opinion to dislike or be grossed out by something. It’s ok to not like long hair on men, again we are getting way to uptight about things that really don’t mean much either way. As far as tackling by the hair, if it’s what a player grabs to make a tackle then so be it. If a dude has long hair he can tuck it in his uniform or bun it other than that too bad if your opponent gets a handful making a tackle.

The TD celebrations are silly and often times very entertaining. What I'm against is the players slowing down and hot dogging BEFORE they cross the goal line. Get the TD first, then have your fun (but don't cost your team penalty yards while you're at it).

Leon Lett is the player I remember when I think of that, lol...and Beebe hustling all the way to knock that ball out. had Lett scored, the Cowboys would have scored a SB-record 59 points.

I agree with Daniel and larryallen. I think people are getting too sensitive about the TD celebrations. Just ignore them, if you think they are ridiculous, but it's certainly not worth getting all worked up over.

And are we really at the point where we are now getting uptight or criticizing players with long hair or the way they wear the hair? What would Kenny Stabler and Fred Belintikoff think? Or Kevin Greene or John Riggins, for that matter? LOL..

Lots of latent racism in this thread. Maybe clean it up a little, fellas?

Crabby old man syndrome afflicts men over the age of 65, regardless of race.

Some coaches encourage biting and grabbing by the balls on the bottom of the pile, late and dirty hits, and pulling hair - dreads or otherwise. I always thought sports was about playing withing the rules, competing as hard as you can and still managing to treat the other team with respect as athletic competitors regardless of the outcome. If you're cheering for the above, just recognize that you might feel different if it was someone you know on the end of the cheap shot. Again, regardless of race - black and white players have hair 'beyond the collar' - it's dirty and shouldn't be coached in.

No no no sports is about the benjamins . Gate receipts , tv contracts , jersey sales , paid autgraph signings , flipping cards for a profit etc.

Thing is when it comes to money from most of those things the win loss record doesn't matter much

Amazing that "bigot" and "prejudice" have gone out the window. Want attention, yell racism.

Do you really believe that not enjoying looking at dreadlocks on a football player is racist? A white racist would not watch a football game. He would most likely favor the NHL.

Hanging below the helmet looks idiotic to me, and in high school I had more hair than most here did...and that looked idiotic as well. No one though was paying me ten million bucks a year to put on a show.

This country is great and people can say whatever they want - really. I'm good with ALL of it. Even that with which I don't agree.

I was joking around; I didn't mean to offend the crabby 65 year old demographic - regardless of their race.

I do however think racism is rather dumb when you consider that there are numerous and more valid reasons to hate people.

Lastly, I am jealous of anyone who can still grow hair on their head.

Impossible to offend anyone here. We all have vulcanized underwear.

Where exactly is the latent racism? Hairstyles do not have race last I checked. I happen to not like dreads on anyone of any race. That would include shoeless hippies. People are sooooo sensitive lately. People are very quick to throw out the racist label when confronted with something they either don't like or agree with. As far as the 65 year old white guy comments, my father is a 65 year old white guy, but I have a few more decades to go before I can claim that title. I just have mostly conservative views.

Sounds like your ageist views are quite stereotypical as far as how you view other people's opinions. Who are you to say what an 65 year old white guy is supposed to think?
I think if we are honest, appearance does matter to everyone. It is your first impression of people. That is exactly why there are dress codes for most professional careers, because appearance does matter. Would we take a pope or president or senator seriously if they were wearing moth eaten dirty coveralls or dreads and baggy jeans hanging below their rear ends? The vast majority would say no we wouldn't.

I agree, people's true value is to be found on the inside, but I never said I didn't like anyone, just don't like some people's appearances.

If "old white guy mentality" is not about age, but about attitude, why does YOUR descriptor for this mentality center on age? It seems you are not very tolerant of old white guys. What about old Hispanic, Asian or Black guys? Are their opinions more accurate or valuable?

I find your defacto moderation of this forum insulting. To label those that disagree with you as somehow of narrow and possibly demented mind is reprehensible.

I grew up in Detroit and saw real poverty as well as half the town burning to the ground. I also saw 4,000,000 people come together to cheer a world series champion in 1968.

Those men stood ramrod straight as the national anthem was played....even as Jose Feliciano made a mockery of it.

I grew up in Detroit and saw real poverty as well as half the town burning to the ground. I also saw 4,000,000 people come together to cheer a world series champion in 1968.

Those men stood ramrod straight as the national anthem was played....even as Jose Feliciano made a mockery of it.

Whatever. I call them like I see them. When you make baseless assertions and assumptions I'm not backing down. I find that insulting.

If "old white guy mentality" is not about age, but about attitude, why does YOUR descriptor for this mentality center on age? It seems you are not very tolerant of old white guys. What about old Hispanic, Asian or Black guys? Are their opinions more accurate or valuable?

There are a few older white guys on this forum who are tolerant.

No Im not. Continue to debate yourself. I'm not going to go rabbit holing with you.

Call it what you want, but when you don't address issues, I call that dodging. You just found yourself in a debate you know you can't win so you take your ball and go home.

I think it’s wrong to stereotype old white guys.

Does anyone give the Cowboys any chance of winning tonight vs Philly? OT Smith looks really iffy and without Elliott, it will be awfully tough..

Perhaps Dimeman can chime in with a prediction. B)

I don't Dallas is toast . I love watching Philly this year . I wonder if their TV ratings are reflecting the season they are having? Wentz is the real deal

Again, dodging... maybe you just shouldn't stereotype older white men. It's ageist, racist and not very tolerant. You know, people in glass houses and such.

I find it funny that if a white guy says he hates dreadlocks it’s wrong but if a Black guy says the same thing nobody cares. It goes in line with a whole bunch of other sayings as well. What people forget is saying something doesn’t have to be considered rude or racist, it’s all about the intent and really it’s difficult to gauge how someone feels by just making a statement especially if they type it on a message board.

    Eye roll

Nope. Just not giving you what you want. I stated everything I can based on my personal experiences and observations. Anything not answered is not in my wheelhouse or I don't have enough experience to make that call.

I do need to be more patient when dealing with intolerance. I'll give you that. Sorry the only girls should have long hair comment by DM set me off. Touched a specific personal nerve that I thought I was over.

Go pull some dreads in a game of football and coach up others to do the same if that's how you feel. Not my thing. You stated your opinion and I countered. I'm not changing my mind and neither are you.

    I'm going to pack

In other news the tackling in the NFL is unbelievably non existent, watching highlights and nearly every other TD is due to not tackling. Guys either try for a vicious hit or just Half try to arm tackle

The exchange between Deion Sanders and Romo after Romo mentioned Sanders and his aversion to tackling a couple of weeks ago during the KC game was pretty funny.

Tolerant of what Commem? You are in fashion design...are you not? Does everything look good to you? Even bell bottoms and platform shoes on men?

I live in a place that is quite likely a hell of a lot more diverse that your gated palace. Guy next door wants to wear a man bun and kneel in front of a flag, god bless him. I just don't want to see that on the playing field?

Step down from your sanctimony for a spell.

You know nothing about me. I've lived in near proverty. Raised two kids with no more then two nickels in my pocket. Lived in the inner city. Worked in Mexico City. Lived in China 5 months of the year. I've seen and know both sides of the tracks. I've never lived in a gated community. I currently live next to a retired Jewish couple and a couple who are Japenese and African- American. My wife is Jewish. My daughter is bi sexual. I find your inferences comical and borderline offensive.
