Arrived today and it is what I expected. No idea what it is worth in this grade. It does have a super low POP for the variety. Tbought s?

Nope, but it's neat.
Manorcourtman probably has some idea, as he seems to be pretty knowledgeable of these type of buff varieties.
What I do recall about the 26D was how tough it was to find decent examples in XF-AU.
Sleeper condition scarce coin.

That's a tough one! Good 'pick! Not enough sales have been recorded for the variety to give a really accurate value.

That Buff has a strange look to it.... seems to have been slightly mistreated.... JMO... but a good variety... I would keep it... Cheers, RickO

If by mistreated you mean cleaned I️ suspect that is a matter of imaging. If you mean it was well used in its day, it is very much all that

The comments made about 1926-D are all spot on. Look no farther than the top feather on the OP's coin, That extreme flatness shown represents a vary high majority of all coins minted.

The bad strike really becomes apparent when viewing higher grade specimens. The horn and front of Black Diamond's head just disappear into a mass of nothingness.

The strike is also uneven on a lot of coins. Mushy reverses are common. There are uncirculated examples missing full horns.

The low number of 2 Feather survivors hints at the fact that the die probably was pulled very early after being reworked.

The coin in this thread is just another example of what I consider to be unsung rarities (varieties) in the Buffalo Nickel series.

I've found a couple of these in the wild and they now sit in PCGS "2 feather" slabs, so I share your enthusiasm. Congrats!

And through March it costs $12 for variety attribution for Collector's Club, instead of $18........

I had one of these that I sold with a bunch of other dates at the top of the market several years ago, right after a bunch of them got added to the CPG. I remember this particular date got very strong money, the rarity was known to specialists even then.

There are 20 different dates that I call "true" 2 feather varieties that show no trace of the feather. That '26-D is one of the toughest of that 20. A few of the other rare ones are the 1915-D, 1916-S, and 1923. It's quite a challenge to complete that set of 20.

Not to hijack the thread, but is the 1913-S type 1 still up there with these other dates, or have more come to market?

A few more of the '13-S have turned up. It's still pretty scarce but the dates listed above are more difficult to find.
