Rare coins still left in the wild

As much as Ebay has devolved to a retail retread and flipper portal it still has just a massive amount of material for the sharp eyed. Our own stealer found this trade dollar which he passed on.
For those who know the series it is a scarcer hub combo with the large S mint Mark. Most 76s (type 1/2 & 2/2) have the micro s mintmark. There are a few type 1/2 that use a large S rev die but the type 2/2 are almost exclusively known with micro s. This one die which was off a little used master die had a small emission of coins which are known mostly circulated. There are maybe 3 or 4 UNCs known and a few dozen AUs but a coin I have struggled to find the right example. Stealer helped me out and rare upgrade for me. While not a CAC type of coin (at the 61 level) I like it

Nice coin and a nice guy that Stealer!!

I hope he chose that name based on the sports team. Trade $1s are a tough area to figure whether they will get the straight grade, for whatever reason many seem to have been cleaned over the years.
That is a very nice coin. thanks for showing.
Good, and I'm glad, for you!

That's a great addition to your collection. Congrats
These kind of finds are what really make the hobby fun
Latin American Collection
Well done!
Cool
Nice pickup. But where are the chops? Someone seems to have forgotten to add them for some reason.
Congrats on the acquisition!
You know I have seen a many many cool and rare chop mark trade dollars but never a 2/2 large S. I don’t think they went overseas in any large quantities.

Congrats- good eye!
cool pick up
Seems like it crosses the rubicon of "so rare the only thing rarer is finding someone who thinks it worthwhile." Happy for you that it floats your boat.
It’s the best hobby , because of camaraderie and those helping others achieve/ acquire what we are passionate about.
Not that rare as this is my 5th example and you have what 2 Circs and Dan has a had bunch, Joe has a few and most other specialists have one as well. I would say that your opinion of the cleaning isn't shared by me or PCGS ( a dip sure) and the reason for the upgrade as I felt I wanted better than an AU, no other reason.

I had the coin in hand and it hasn't been cleaned, just dipped. JMO.
Glad it found a home where it would be appreciated
Meh what do you know Afford at least your consistent. You think PCGS got your au55 wrong and it’s and UNC and you think they got my UNC wrong too. Yah you don’t sound bitter
Not bad for an AU and least you’re happy

Make up stories about coins being so rare (despite us all having multiples) , make up stories about your options with all your friends but grades don’t lie and most people who know how to grade can see the wear ( including the grade on the holder). But Call it UNC if you wish

Let’s talk about this guy instead. I like your stories

Are you really saying other people can’t grade your 55 by a photo while you sit there talking crap about my 61 from a photo. Oh RO you crack me up.

Now, now... Play nice boys.... I suggest you meet with your coins 'in hand'.... enjoy a bottle of wine, then compare coins.... with another bottle of wine...
Would love to sit in on THAT session....
Cheers, RickO
Fair enough but I disagree. Instead I’ll take the high road and show you a true example of a coin that has been wiped to remove something and show you the difference. Here is a low end 77s broken arrows that has been wiped to remove surface contamination

The 76s is comparable to this over graded NGC 62. Not the multiple marks and surface smutz and the dipped skin. I would agree neither are market ideal and why I stated at the beginning it wouldn’t CAC.

You’re right about mistakes falling into holders here is one with obvious tooling around the MM but in a 58 holder

There is an irony to your point that I am sure esacapes you.

Agree with the original post and coincidentally another one of these was posted to eBay and went unsold as a raw offering. An after auction offer was accepted and this one (same variety as OP) ended up in a PCGS 55 holder. Also not a CAC coin but very PL obverse and reverse adding to the mystique of this variety.
I know you can't let Crypto have the last word, afford
Someone pointed out the new blocking feature,
there is no afford anymore.
