    Interesting medal!

I bought these by mail from a magazine ad in 1964.

They were privately produced medals of Barry Goldwater and Lyndon Johnson sold in 1964 when they competed in the 1964 US Presidential Election.

They were produced by the ArtCraft company and both have a manufacturer monogram "AC".

A 1964 US copyright entry for the Goldwater medal indicates that it was registered by "Ernest R. Neyhard d.b.a Artcraft" on May 26, 1964.

Sold by "Commemorative Arts Inc." in September, 1964.

    Obverse: BARRY M. GOLDWATER 1964
Reverse: Arizona map with star, eagle on shield
"I seek an America proud of its past, its ways, its dreams" Monogram "AC"

Lyndon Johnson ArtCraft President Medal 1964
    Bronze, 40mm, 21.74gm
Obverse: LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON PRESIDENT 1964
    Reverse: Eagle and wreath
"UPWARD TO THE GREAT SOCIETY" Monogram "AC"

I don't think that the voters had a great choice in 1964. Goldwater said that he would increase our involvement in Vietnam, a major mistake in my opinion. Johnson lied about what he was going to do, and his escalation destroyed his presidency.

As for the medalet that started this thread, I know a political items dealer who has a large supply of them at an attractive price. PM me if you are interested.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

@BillJones....I do understand why he was not elected...I believed then...and still do... that it was a mistake... the result of political dirty tricks.. to the detriment of our nation at the time.
I will let you know if I decide to venture into this area... Thank you for the offer. Cheers, RickO

never seen those other presidential tokens before.. the shop by me doesnt have a great selection of tokens at the moment

  • Actually these Medallions were created designed and drawn by CM Casto the creator and president of Commemorative Arts Inc. and was my Father. I know he farmed out the striking of these coins. I would love to find a few more he presented a real gold coin to Barry Goldwater in 1964, he was also the WV Republican Campaign Mgr For the 64 Goldwater Election, there were also JFK in Fine Silver Bronze and LBJ and Winston Churchill in Fine Silver and Bronze. The series was called The Current Events Series. Scratching my head wondering how Artco Got A Patent if they were just contracted or hired to strike them. Also my Father had a CA mark on the Coin. The writing above says it’s an AC. ? I will do some investigative work on this. My Father Passed Away in 06. Any information would be greatful. My Father also use to write a column in coin world magazine ( I don’t know how often). But he loved collecting trading creating coins.

I suppose the monogram could read "CA" for Commemorative Arts or "AC" for ArtCraft.
