Delayed mail

Maybe there really is something to delayed packages. And watching packages go back and forth across the country before finally getting where they are supposed to. This article is in my local newspaper this morning.

Such a shame.... the U.S. Post Office was at one time the best in the world.... May still be better than most, but has issues that stem from bureaucracy and poor management. Cheers, RickO

Your local Post Office has nothing to do with any of this. The delays are at the Mail Processing Centers. Unfortunately everything trickles down to the ledge of your Mail Carriers sorting case, and the Mail Carrier gets the low stick with complaints.

Those in the MPCs (who are out of sight) live a very comfortable life...................

Tester wrote the U.S. Postmaster General on Monday after the Office of Inspector General revealed that more than 2 billion mailed items were delayed nationwide over a year’s time. Investigators also discovered postal workers manipulating mail delivery time records and inaccurately reporting delayed mail.

I see that all the time here. Scanned as departing but it doesn't make the truck that day, and comes on the next day's truck. This happens on such a regular basis I will guesstimate it happens on 50% of my inbound stuff. (unsure out)

Also, I'm 1 of 2 known forumites who had express mail delivery times changed backwards to indicate an on time delivery.

Several postal employees, including some in Montana, reported mail being intentionally delayed so workers on another shift would have something to do.

    yea rite

So, that is why it took 18 months to get a package from NY to Colorado.

    and 4 days back.

    hmmmmmmmm

Yep.............employees can't change delivery times on express mail............the scanners are locked. Only Supervisors can mess with things.

The Post Office where I worked had a supervisor change delivery time on an express mail to reflect that it was delivered before 12:00 P.M. He got caught, was severely reprimanded, and transferred to a different location for doing it.

A falsification can bring a regular employee a dismissal. I guess management just shuffles around its own people like cards.

I guess the lesson is to use the USPS app or website that shows you tracking information for express mail, then take screenshots immediately when packages are late.

I didn't get the Heritage auction catalogs before the winter FUN show last year. I thought maybe Heritage had dropped me from their mailing list. About a week after the FUN show was over, the box containing them showed up at my post office. According to the postmark the box had been in the system for a month!
