;) When the market is up so-called collectors want out and don't want to buy coins.

When the market is "down" so-called collectors want to quit and hate the down market because they say their coins are worth less. What a bunch of crybaby whiners. :)

It's hard to differentiate whining from ranting. It's noise, just the same. And any noise in this hobby is better than no noise at all. Or were we supposed to act like we're in the library ?

I wish the market would completely collapse for two years, then roar back to all time highs.

I collect, among other things, $2.5 & $5 gold Eagles. A prominent gold coin expert that I talked with at Long Beach suggested I stay away from them. From an investment stand point maybe he's right. But I'm buying them cheaper than ever right now and getting close to finishing the $5 set. Wouldn't mind if it dropped some more while I get to work on the $2,5 set!

I have to admit that I bought a better date Double Eagle last year at Santa Clara under book. Its been going down ever since...... no one likes to throw money away, but cheaper is alright ;)

So am I. You hate to see lower prices when you own the pieces. No one likes to lose money.

At the same time high prices can be a pain, especially you get priced out of the market for a decent example of a coin. This is especially true when prices seem to going up for no apparent good reason.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

I've been waiting for 20 years to buy an 1815 bust half, because trusted dealers told me they are plentiful and way over- priced. Still waiting. They may be right, but I may not live long enough for it to matter.

Since I only buy coins, I always watch for deals... of course, what I am looking for, seldom comes as a 'deal'.... :D I have long had the suspicion that somehow, I transmit my current interests to the market, which immediately causes prices to rise on coins I am seeking. Tin foil hat time.... :D:D Oh well.. sooner or later, the right combination of coin and price comes along...Cheers, RickO
