Wow. I've never seen an off-metal PROOF strike before.

    Interesting.
I wonder what the planchet was originally used for?

That is amazing, and probably one of a kind

I like the Ike, proof, off metal strikes. Those are awesome.

Does not match any planchet being used for a foreign coin. They did make aluminum coins for the Philippines and Nepal in that year, but they are much smaller. Don't think the crooks in the SFAO at the time had the capacity to get a roll of aluminum strip into a blanking press.

Note that the lot description mentions signs of an understrike. The piece was struck on a token of some sort. Can't make it out, but there seems to be a pattern of concentric circles in some places.

Perhaps one of those aluminum tokens you used to get at a gas station? Collect all fifty states or whatever? Don't have access to a token junk box or I would look.

In other words, a deliberate "error."

PS: What is the "Aluminum Plan?" Is it like the "American Plan" at a hotel? Did someone let spell check correct "Flan?"

Now that is unique.... not sure they will get the BIN....That being said, it could well be 'one of a kind'...Cheers, RickO
