The wedge of metal above "Liberty" do not look right with respect to the metal flow of a struck piece. It should not be sharply defined like that on the edge. The "V.D.B." on the shoulder looks funny too although one could argue that was due to the metal fragment strike. I have never seen a fragment piece that looked like that.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Can you share what the other error coins were that were deemed counterfeit and unverifiable authenticity? I think this could be educational for folks. Too bad about the 1956. That would have been super cool if real.

The '56 is counterfeit? I dunno about that.
Yeah, I'd like to hear an explanation on that one. Nothing is jumping out at me as obviously bad.
56-D is the coin itself being questioned or the error?
doesn't say fake error says counterfeit. Probably made with counterfeit dies.
who would make something like that ?
John Wilkes Booth Mint.
Just saw this..but @Smittys has the makings of a nice coin jig-saw puzzle

I would get a second opinion on that 1956-D cent.
When I saw that cent, I thought of John Wilkes Booth too.
Looks okay to me too.

The coin itself is better struck than most coins of that era.

Send that 56-D off to Fred, let him have a look at it if he already hasn't.

I believe he still does the error authentication for PCGS. So, he has probably seen it and determined its fate.
