New CBH...thoughts?

lkeigwinlkeigwin Posts: 16,892 ✭✭✭✭✭

I imaged 130 bust halves for a dealer during the last few days and a few stood out.

I really liked this one though I know it is not original...it is secondary toning but I really like it.

I figure it was dipped long ago. Luster was unaffected...it is intense. The coin probably sat in an envelope for a long while and developed amazing toning.

I have a hundred more original. But this is Lolita. Sorry for the bad analogy.
Lance.

Very nice toning... a nice higher grade coin, if tpgs are ok with toning...

I see a lot of the high spots look smooth. I don't know if this is typical or if it was caused by dies or some mild circulation? The luster shows up nicely in your photo which I like. The blue hues I could live without.

Just as nice as can be my friend. The images you take are also superb. You da man when it comes to these capped bust beauties.

That coin is Sweet! How terrible to have to image coins you would like to keep?! Maybe forget to send that one back?

Mike, the high spots are smooth. Often this is due to weakness but most of the time there is a little rubbing (cabinet friction - LOL) on these coins. They are rarely seen with full original luster. When they get darkly toned, it may be hard for some to tell the difference. IMO, this coin would possibly make MS-62 or MS-63 except it is AT. That's why the guys at the TPGS get paid. If they decide this AT is "market acceptable" due to the attractiveness and commercial value of the coin - score! Then it may even make MS-64.

As for the blue color, too bad it is splotchy w/flow on the right side of the obverse. Otherwise IMO, probably straight grade.

I just imaged part of an AT Morgan to highlight the dark blue chemical flow next to the denticals and around the stars.

Is the blue / purple hue on the coin as strong as it appears to be on the image?

The luster really pops on those slab shots.

I'm a sucker for cobalt blue toning so of coarse I like it.

A beautiful coin, and I think Lance's imaging skills bring out the luster to the full extent possible without actually seeing the coin in person.

That was my first thought. Such a tough coin to photograph properly and you appear to have done it due justice by showing the luster. The color is not my favorite, but it sure is pretty.
