I have been studying differences between a true DD & Machine Doubling. The 1 looks like a DD, what do y'all think? It's not a significant coin I just wanted to see if fir once in my life I can spot a true dd. If it isn't can you tell me why. Also the reverse has extra penny(lol not sure what its called) but it has a part on it that doesn't seem to be pmd but made with coin.

I don't see any evidence for a doubled die.

If it takes that much magnification and you still have to wonder about it ... it isn't worth bothering with.

It's difficult to tell from the images, but I don't think you have an example of a doubled die. Keep searching ... finding a doubled die is not easy. The key is to look for "split serifs" on the letters and numbers.

Here is a good article on doubled dies by John Wexler:

I'm not seeing it. The images are way out of focus.

Not sure of the method you are using - are you inspecting every cent you have at high mag?
I recommend getting one of the Cherrypicker's guides, then focusing (no pun intended) on those cents with known dd's, and inspecting those, using the diagnostics provided. I had my best luck, and it wasn't much, searching solid date rolls of coins with known dd varieties.

I agree on the Cherrypicker's Guide, it is a great book, in fact the only time I
ever found a true double die was after I bought the book, it was a bi-centennial
    1976d quarter

I think I see something but I'm not sure. Pics need to be more in focus to make a determination.

I suppose there could be an unkown DD from many decades ago, but it is highly unlikely to say the least. I agree with others that it is best to focus on known dates....

Thanks all i really appreciate your feedback. I will take advice and yes i understand there is dd that are recognized because a machine stamped a certain amount before mistake was caught and so everyone will have the same exact dd mistake and those get recognized in Redbook. However I also know there's individual dd's that are caught by people that wasn't part of the dd that is known and logged in Redbook. For example I guess we'll use the famous 1955. There's the dd that has strong doubling that people find but then there's a few who have a 1955 with not as strong dd aND are worth less but still of value and still a 1955 dd. I will focus on those years but what I do love about coins is that people can find a mistake that no one else has or has caught and that's what makes it so fun and addicting.

Ok fee, keep searching, but I have just one question, what is up with the "aND" you type in almost every post, some kind of code? Just curious.

  • Lol, @BruceS no my phone saves the words so when I type the word it changes it to the way I used it once and never corrected it. I guess I could say It was a secret code that I'm sending out to the Kremlin, that would of sounded much cooler but no just laziness. I may fix it...one day.

Aka a Trump Conservative ...ummm...no. I may not be able to spot a dd. However, I do have a keen eye for egotistical narcassistic sociopaths.

Trump's hair may be a doubled dye.
