Got a Amed Rosario Red Ink and Harrison Bader blue ink as my 2 autos. But I hit the #ed Gold GU mother train. I pulled 2 from retail and 2 from my hobby case, including an Ichiro and Ranger slugger Joey Gallo.
Chrome Refractors of Verdugo/Buehler Dodgers Rookie Stars. I also got the Black border version. 2 Minis. Didn't notice any different color backs or flip stocks. But I found a 2017 one 2-3 months after the fact last year....so if you need a 2017 Nolan Arenado Flip Stock I'm your man.
Remember when you could buy a case and get all the SPs. A case, probably 10 blasters, and 10 hanger packs between Wal Mart and Target and I still 18 to complete my Set and Ranger Team Set, but I have plenty to trade. I put all the "hits" on ebay if you want to see scans.

The lack of star power in the SPs almost seems intentional by Topps. Granted it makes it easy to complete via trading or buying, but there's no "sexiness".

I've been involved with the set since 02 and it's tougher now than ever.
I agree with your assessment of the SPs. This just may be my last year with the set.

Perhaps for me too, more because this was the last set I collected as a teen. Never collected the 70's 'til '78.
I got the message that my 4 hobby boxes were out for delivery. Stoked. Get home to find the USPS slip. Bummed. Find out my wife was home all day and they probably didn't even try. Pissed.

So, I finally decided to dip my toes in the Heritage waters for the first time, just to see what all of the fuss was about. I bought a hobby box last week during the 20 percent off sale that arrived yesterday, and also grabbed 2 blaster boxes from Target.
As far as I can recall, these are the first Heritage cards that I've ever held in my hands. I was struck immediately by the card stock. Has the Heritage line always used the retro looking gray cardboard? I guess I always assumed they were printed similarly to the Cards Your Mom Threw Out inserts on the white stock.
Here's a photo of the main hits from the hobby box. Not that impressive, but as a Royals fan, I guess I could have done a lot worse than a Perez relic and a Greinke 62/69.
The first box from Target yielded a purple chrome card in each pack. I'm told that is a "hot box". Can anyone add any information about the purple cards? I'm sure they are somewhat "valuable", and while they'll go into my PC, I don't really pursue the chrome and other shiny cards. Also, there was a yellow Target exclusive Harper that isn't that impressive as far as inserts go.
The second Target blaster had a Lamb 726/999, a Miguel Sano relic, a Hoskins yellow Target exclusive, and a Devers solo card with the 1969 rookie cup variation. I've been informed that the Devers card should only make an appearance in the hobby boxes, but this one came from a Target blaster. Can anyone confirm or clarify the announced/implied distribution of that card?
Lastly, I have a question about the short print high numbers 401-500. Did they change up the way those are distributed compared to prior years? I've gotten the impression that previous years, it was not at all difficult to assemble a hand collated complete set (relatively speaking). Just some back of the napkin math, but if the 2018 high numbers are inserted 1 in every 3 packs, assuming perfect distribution with no duplication, it would take 300 packs to acquire one of each. That leaves 2600 other cards from those packs. Assuming a few inserts, relics, chrome, etc, and accounting for the fact that some inserts take the place of multiple cards in the pack because of size, you're looking to have at least 2200 cards, and the reality is probably more like 2400 cards numbered 1-400. Again, assuming even distribution, that's a 6:1 ratio between regular base cards and the short print high numbers. Does that sound accurate to you?
I see where the yellow Target exclusives are supposed to mimic the transogram cards from 1969. Okay, it makes the insert a wee bit cooler, I guess.
Also, forgot to mention my box topper was Bellinger, but the 3 card panel on the obverse was kind of lame with Ellsbury, Kendrys Morales, and N.L. Strikeout Leaders.
I started putting the Heritage cards into order and in an album. Being more familiar with the actual 1969 set, I started to notice things like that many of the card numbers mirror the actual 1969 set.
As examples:
15 Chris Davis/Boog Powell 1st Base Orioles
20 Anthony Rizzo/Ernie Banks 1st Base Cubs
35 Jose Altuve/Joe Morgan 2nd Base Astros
50 Andrew McCutchen/Roberto Clemente Outfielder Pirates
So forth and so on. I don't have a complete Heritage set, so I can't say with precision, but it appears at least half of the set matches up this way. Also, a lot of Pilots and Expos are now Brewers and Nationals. Is this something that Heritage has done with its previous issues, as well? Like I stated in an earlier post, this is my first foray into dabbling with Heritage cards, so I'm trying to familiarize myself with all of the little quirks and history of the Heritage.
I bought a few more target blasters this past week and they were basically garbage. The first week out they had good hits but this trip yielded, well, basically nothing out of 5 boxes. Only one of the yellow Target inserts and 2 chrome cards. Think I have about 4000 base cards and now need to start sorting them to see how many sets I have. What I can say after looking thru some of the cards, including the inserts is that I think it is going to be tough to get 10's on a lot of these cards. I guess it depends how strict PSA is on them. The pink backs seem to have issues around the borders and corners and the deckle edge....those have chipping all over.
So, with the 8 percent eBucks promotion that started Thursday, I bought a 5 box lot of blasters for $99.99 free shipping. The lot just arrived this afternoon. They do not have the Target or Wal-Mart banner across the top of the box, so I'm not familiar enough with the Heritage product to say whether they are hobby or retail blasters. Anyway, since I've posted last night, there's been a lot of additional views to this thread, but no one has yet responded directly to my questions within my post.
The first blaster box that I opened today was a dud, BUT THE RESULTS OF THE SECOND BOX WILL CERTAINLY WAKE A FEW PEOPLE UP AND WARRANT A RESPONSE! HELLO, MR. TROUT!!!
@ZTarg said:
Nice pull. I thought red autos were #ed to 69?
I truly know little to nothing about the quirks of the Heritage product. I'd never purchased any Heritage until about a week ago. A quick check on eBay shows other examples of Trout, along with Nolan Ryan, Johnny Bench, Reggie Jackson, Hank Aaron, and Carl Yastrzemski as # /25 red ink autos, but many other current and former players as # /69. So I guess the # /25 cards are considered short print autos?

You scored well with the Trout. Maybe it's just my eyes, but why does the auto. ink look more orange than red?
Successful transactions:Tookybandit. "Everyone is equal, some are more equal than others".
For some Topps heritage photos that are dark ~ the
red ink does not appear readily and really diminishes the effective auto.
This likely undercuts the card appeal and therefore value..... Shouldn't Topps adjust to this? Perhaps realizing Carlos needs the light Astros uniform for this frame....Sorry guys Ill start a new thread with this.
You scored well with the Trout. Maybe it's just my eyes, but why does the auto. ink look more orange than red?
Again, I'm not well versed in Heritage, and don't actively collect autographs, so I am only learning as I go. It does appear more orange than red to me, also. I looked up some of the other red ink autographs for sale on eBay, and while most players do seem to have a darker shade of red, I also saw some random ones that had an orange tint to them, as well. I also looked at the other Mike Trout # /25 autos, current and past listings, and while they may look a bit more red than mine, none of them seem to be an especially bold red. Perhaps they didn't hand him the exact type of pen as some of the other signees?
If I'm critiquing my pull honestly, it appears as if the ink was starting to run a bit dry in the pen, or Mike wasn't pressing as hard on this autograph, because if you zoom in, you can see the line is not bold and solid. I'm guessing that hurts the value a bit? I may end up throwing it up on eBay and letting the bidders decide.
At any rate, it was a nice thrill and rush of adrenaline to pull that card.
Am I correct in saying that not only can I only get Otani #17 in hobby packs, but also only get it as an SP insert? Why wouldn't Topps just make it 417 (SP) or have a solo action variation as well as have him on a dual angels RC? So there are 101 SPs?
Now I can't even complete a base set after 3 - 4 boxes.
Seems like a crappy maneuver to me. Poor form from Topps IMO.

Can't argue with ya Jim.
I agree. This has to be some kind of "hobby" dealer input to them?
topps inclusion of otani was key in selling heritage, however there are rules that prevent them from including rc's of guys who haven't played yet. including him as an "insert" was a way around that.

I was meaning to mention something that I found and didn't understand.
I opened a blaster and every pack had 1 "purple" chrome.
Hiya Mike, you hit what's called in modern times as a "hot box"
I have had no luck finding retail, and hobby prices are too high. I'd plucked some blasters from the mlb shop with a great discount, it looks like I might be done if prices on eBay don't take a nose dive.

HELLO, MR. TROUT!!!
Nice pull. I thought red autos were #ed to 69?
That's simply awesome Id love to have that in my collection. congrats
For some Topps heritage photos that are dark ~ the
red ink does not appear readily and really diminishes the effective auto.
This likely undercuts the card appeal and therefore value..... Shouldn't Topps adjust to this? Perhaps realizing Carlos needs the light Astros uniform for this frame....Sorry guys Ill start a new thread with this.
Here are my up to date lists.

This one is odd to me - 1969 stamp - Orlando Cepeda.
Pulled it from a blaster - had to check - odds are over 3000 -1 packs?
Orlando looks as perplexed as I was about the nexus of this design.
I pulled a coin card of Ortiz with a nickel on it last year. Case hit. The Cepeda reminds me of it Hated it
Shakiness could also be attributed to medications related to his transplant he received in 2016-

Jim buy the Ohtani in a year or 2. I foresee a price drop on the horizon.
I was meaning to mention something that I found and didn't understand.
I opened a blaster and every pack had 1 "purple" chrome. Not sure how rare this is?
topps inclusion of otani was key in selling heritage, however there are rules that prevent them from including rc's of guys who haven't played yet. including him as an "insert" was a way around that.
Hiya Mike, you hit what's called in modern times as a "hot box"
I have had no luck finding retail, and hobby prices are too high. I'd plucked some blasters from the mlb shop with a great discount, it looks like I might be done if prices on eBay don't take a nose dive.
