Ed Reiter has passed away

CaptHenwayCaptHenway Posts: 33,246 ✭✭✭✭✭

Ed Reiter, longtime Executive Editor of COINage Magazine, has passed away at age 79. The cause of death was listed as multiple organ failure. He had diabetes and had been in poor health for several years.

I have had the honor of working with him since 1991 as a contributor to COINage. A nice guy with a great sense of humor.

Sorry to hear of this. Among all of the general collector magazines, I think that COINage is the most enjoyable.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Mine too, i remember riding my bike to the market to buy CoinAge way back in 1978.

Also bought a copy last October.

    Rest in peace, Ed.

He left quite a legacy with COINage magazine as it has been the best in the business for many years now.

And in no small part thanks to the contributions of Tom DeLorey.

Had the absolute pleasure of knowing Ed for over 32 years. I first met him at the 1985 GSNA Convention in Cherry Hill, NJ right after my freshman year of college. He also got me to join the NLG in 1991.

Our family extends their sincerest condolences to Ed's family, non-numismatic and numismatic.

Sad news. He challenged his illness every day and focused on his work and interests. A fine contributor to the core of knowledge that benefit all.

His magazine is top notch. Good paper, slick images, everything a collector is attracted to. He did it right, and I personally liked the coin prices listings.

Sad news indeed. I always enjoy reading Coinage magazine especially those articles written by some guy named Tom DeLorey. ;)
