The mint has sold 44,000 of 150,000. Sales are much lower than anticipated. However, this set is marked as "Limited" on the US mint website. I believe they plan on melting the last 100,000 sets ( it contains the edge lettered 2016 American Eagle Proof) and the final mintage will be 50,000( what it should have been in the first place. I believe it will also lower the 2016 Eagle proof to about 450,000 which is also relatively low. Thoughts?

I'm just glad that the mint didn't play any games with the distribution of this set the way they did with the Truman and Kennedy sets. That was why I was able to buy one. I would have bought the others had I had the chance.

As for the Reagan set, the dollar presented a poor portrait of him. The man was a handsome film actor, but he looks more like Bugs Bunny on that coin. I know the artist was trying to make a copy of a Reagan photo, but it just didn’t come out right.

I doubt the full 150,000 were produced in advance. Maybe they're selling off the latest production run and giving it the ax due to slowing sales. Good idea!

The mint sent out a flyer about a month ago. All Presidential & First Spouse coin sales will end on 12/31. They are offering free shipping on the coins.

I bought (2) of these sets on the first day of release. The first (2) reverse proofs I can't even call nail biters, as there was no time for that due to the quick sell out. I was very disappointed that there wasn't a silver medal with the Reagan set...thanks dennis1219 on production report. Hopefully much lower than the 150,000 on final sales.

Mr. Bill you are into collecting modern coins too?

Yes, I collect selected pieces. I buy one silver Proof set every year, I have all but one of the modern commemoratives and I did buy the Theodore Rooseve, Franklin Roosevelt and Ronald Reagan Chronicals sets. I also have type coins for the modern bullion gold pieces. I prefer these coins in the original mint packages.

Collecting all the stuff the mint issues every year is ridiculous. It would run you over $30,000, and it has been that way for years.

I am very selective when it comes to mint products. I used to buy a lot of them - and learned how quickly they lose value. Cheers, RickO

That's what I stopped collecting that clad Proof sets. At least the silver sets have some good metal in them, and they are more attractive.

I am a huge fan of the Coin and Chronicles sets that have the Presidential Reverse proofs (2015-16) I don't know if I qualify as a hoarder, but I have at least a dozen of each. Not looking to sell either. I guess my kids will handle that part. What I am trying to figure out is why the Truman is going for twice the Eisenhower. They have the same mintage, and the advantage the Eisenhower has over the Truman, is there are probably some Eisenhower dollar collectors out there. My feeling is within 5 years they will both settle in the 250-300 range.

The mint fubar'ed this set so I'll sit on the sidelines and might pick one up later when the prices drop. If they don't drop, that's ok, I'll enjoy my PCGS rattler Reagan medal.

I'll also enjoy the Reagan repousse.

I agree with BillJones. The Reagan depiction on the $ coin is absurd and an embarrassment.
