Falmouth Stamp and Coin

I don't post much about my experiences with coin stores I randomly visit on my travels, but I dropped by these guys while I was on vacation in Cape Cod... Can't say enough about them. Their selection was great, they were patient, and we chatted plenty as I was digging through their raw Morgans. The owner, Mr Holland, took a few minutes to show me some stuff he picked up that walked in the door, including a collection of super original higher-end Walkers with lots of early dates in 58 or better. Pretty amazing stuff.
No other coin store on the Cape even comes close. It's a must-see if you're in the area and have a few hours to spare. This is easily a top 5 store I've ever visited.
Here's three of the four coins I picked up from them. The fourth resides in one of my danscos ('35-S Walker) as an upgrade to the cull I had there before.
'78-S Morgan, my grade 64+ shot 65.
'87 Morgan, my grade 66.
'23 Peace, bought it for the color.

Nice coins! I purchased online from them a couple of times. Never a problem.

I've bought from them also always a smooth transaction.
Always great to hear of positive experiences when visiting a coin shop
Glad to see them mentioned. I visit there every year or two for the latest Silver Eagles an some other specialty stuff I look for on occasion.
Over the years I have bought maybe a half dozen nice half dimes from Falmouth Coin & Stamp, and can echo the very positive comments made by others here. I have enjoyed dealing with Tom Holland, and that is where I first met Howard Barron some years ago. I can highly recommend them.
All are very nice, but I really like the toned Peace $.
Nice looking coins, I'm a big fan of the '87.
i like the 87 as well.
I'll bet that Peace $ looks amazing in hand.
it's crackers to slip a rozzer the dropsy in snide
Wow, a lot of fellow new Englander's, or you guys just visiting on vacation?

Nice stuff. I was expecting some salty language when I opened the thread. LOL
I will be up there fishing in a few weeks will have to stop in and see them
I went there a couple of years ago and I must say I agree with you very much.
I am almost equally distant from Falmouth Stamp and Coin and the shops that used to be in Boston, such as J. J. Teaparty. I went to JJT a few times - they were nice enough and I got what I wanted, but not much on display as I recall. In Falmouth, on the other hand, there are many display cases, including some with the motorized trays that go around and around, and if you are looking for something specific they have huge safes full of stuff as well. It reminds me of the sort of coin shop I went into as a kid. Lots to see and marvel at.
I like the 87 as 66+, but with the tightness in grades, 66.
It's hard to tell with all the toning but the Peace looks circulated. Is it?
It's a great coin shop. I visited it several times some years ago, when my family would do a week of summer vacation each August in Falmouth with the grandparents. Filled in many holes in my Liberty Seated half dimes and dimes albums!
It sounds like he knows what he's doing in terms of quality. What did you pay for the raw coins as a percentage of likely grade?
The problem with a lot of shops is they are off the wall on their grading, totally skewed in their advantage. In such shops you would have a better chance on scratch-offs than getting "their" grade # or better.
Nice coins, thanks for the 'shop report'

The biggest problems I have had at shops is with coins that are hard to accurately pin down as to whether they will straight grade, let alone grade at a higher level than stated. When you have several sets of sharp eyes in a shop there really isn't an excuse for them calling a coin good at a particular grade they claim when the coin is clearly cleaned, not original, or has other problems. You don't want to be rude unfortunately many people have been stung, and the "all sales final" policy, or returns at greatly depreciated values, speaks to businesses that do not stand behind their material.
Those are very strong pickups I think. What no VAMs?

Been there many times. His grading is spot on. Bought and sold many coins there. The owner was a pharmacist before he reinvented himself as a numismatist

Those are very nice Morgans...and acceptable prices as well. It has been a long time since I have traveled Massachusetts.... Will mark this for a visit when I go back that way. Cheers, RickO
Wow! I didn't know there was a coin shop in Falmouth! I live on Martha's Vineyard and Falmouth is just a hop, skip, and a jump away....(actually a boat ride and a couple miles inland) Thanks for letting me know, I'll be visiting there soon as soon as this tourist season calms down a little.
Very nice coins. that being said, I have never heard of Falmouth, but if that's a town, that's quite an unfortunate name. I'm sure you have to be from Mass. to pronounce it correctly.
??? I never considered it an unfortunate name, I guess because I always knew the correct pronunciation....
it is an old English name, pronounced "Falmuth".
Falmouth is the town on Cape Cod closest to Martha's Vineyard, if you've heard of that.

Howard Barron used to work at Falmouth. I met Howard at a Baltimore show many years ago, mid 1990s. What a wonderful guy. He found out I was starting to collect Proof Indian Cents and would bring me from 3 or 4 to 10 beautiful, iridescent Proof Indians at every subsequent Baltimore Show. They were all raw and I bought nearly all of them at very good prices. They formed the basis of a very nice Proof Indian Cent collection and many graded high with several going PR67BN at PCGS at a time when it was very tough to make a PR67 Indian Cent at PCGS.I still get to see him at some of the larger shows and he remains the same nice guy he always has been.

If you think Falmouth is a strange name for a town, consider the town where our ferry service is located....Woods Hole. These are all coastal towns with lots of fishing, boating, beaches, and now one of the best little coin shops around!!!!!
Great to hear this. Sounds like a nice, friendly B&M. Your pickups are all very choice.
Had I rolled in before you, that '23 Peace Dollar would have been lone gone...it's beautiful!
Dave
Really like that Peace Dollar nice find
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
Great Peace Dollar!
Nice report - unfortunately I don't see any high grade early walkers on the website
