What is Goldins teasing? Let's hear some guesses.
I thought maybe some of you who were at the National may have heard something.
From Sports Collector Daily:
"Goldin Auctions says it will be offering “the most valuable and historically significant sports-related collectible ever to be sold” in its October Legends auction.
Now that’s a tease.
They’ll reveal it at a news conference soon.
Sometimes such proclamations don’t live up to the hype but the company says “rest assured there will be zero doubt in anyone’s mind” it’s a big deal once the details are out."

While I doubt that a hockey Item could ever be considered the most "historically significant sports-related collectible ever to be sold" perhaps the second 1979 OPC Gretzky PSA 10?
Let's hear your guess.

1952 Topps Mantle PSA 10.
Man that would be something to see a Mantle 10 auctioned off. I sure hope it happens!
On Net 54 I suggested the only two items that would qualify would be the PSA 8 Wagner or a 1952 Mantle PSA 10. I would seriously wonder if a knowledgeable collector had either item would they go through Goldin rather than Heritage, MLI, or REA.
I have a Topps Chrome refractor when the info comes out it will not be what was expected.

A signed Babe Ruth uniform in near mint-mint. From his 60 HR season.
73 cello FB box with stars showing is what I heard.
Based upon the description of "most historically significant", I highly doubt its a card. It is something from a famous game or something that belonged to someone who "transcends sports" like a President. A graded card isn't "historically significant".
I actively collect Kirby Puckett. I have collections of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith, Roberto Clemente, Dwight Gooden, Tom Seaver, Errict Rhett and Evan Longoria.
"Sports-related" makes me think it's probably not a card, and probably not a game-worn/used item. Leaning toward a contract, rules, or trophy.
They found the 1952 Topps high series cases at bottom of ocean scattered like fish food, BUT one case was sealed in an airtight drum. xD
I too think it has something to do with memorabilia, versus a card. However, if it is a card, it has to be the Mantle 10. IIRC, the 3 10s in existence have never been on the public selling block. The PSA 8 Wagner has, so it might make it more unrealistic.
I heard it was they caught the cardinals squirrel.
Maybe Babe Ruth's 1927 bat that is / was displayed at the Louisville bat museum.

I agree that it is likely not a card. My guess is a 1920's Babe Ruth game uniform with great provenance.

One Word : JENNY
I remember when Beckett mag had an article about someone who purchased one of the 10s for 125K - I believe.
Since that's what I paid for my first house. I thought that was like a million bucks! It was around 1992. If I ever find the mag in my box? I'll post the article.
Now? If someone bought it for that price. Took out a mortgage and put in a safe deposit box...
I'm sure you know where I'm going?
My vote is a 1952 Topps high-number sealed case

Perhaps Mike Eruzione's uniforms and medal from the 1980 Olympics though those sold not too long ago for something less than the $3-4m we've seen for other items. Far more historically significant than a 52 Mantle though.
Maybe Ruth's 60th home run? Maris's 61st? Aaron's 715th?
Something 1919 White Sox / Joe Jackson related?
1947 Jackie Robinson contract.
I change my selection.

I see Joe O just posted in the last hour on Twitter that Jackie Robinson's 1947 Dodgers contract is coming up for sale.
Probably this.
Yep.

Wow, sounds like they expect $36 million!

What do I win for guessing correctly?
$36M? I wonder how much Robinson made in his entire career? I wonder who the first player to make $36M in their career was?

Well it would be someone between Don Mattingly and Jose Canseco. Don made $29.9 Mil and Jose made $45.5. Sorry I don't know baseball well enough to guess. Throw me some names and I'll look it up.

So far it would be Jose Canseco in 1997.

Henderson cleared it in 96 or 97.
How about Sandburg, Boggs, or Gwynn.
