1786 Nova Constellatio - Struck over an undertype?

This recently discovered 1786 Nova is the sharpest I've seen in the 40 years hunting these down. There seems to be hints of lettering above the wreath, and then in and around the word Nova, as well as near the tops of the rays and other areas. Would anyone have any idea what this was struck over?....Perhaps a British coin or token that circulated in the same area around that time?
It's currently in the ANA auction, with only a couple of hours to go.

The marks detailed below are a die match to the Ford, FCC Boyd Ryder specimen sold in 2005, so this suggests they are in the die rather than in an overstruck coin. From the other thread

I am seeing what looks like repeated use of a device punch on the die (1a, 1b, 2, 3, 5),
with corresponding raised lines of scallops on the coin?
Interestingly, the holed VF details coin sold for $4700 today,
while the unholed VG details coin sold for $7050.

Great detail...thanks for the pictures... Cheers, RickO
Were these considered to be contemporary counterfeits?
If that was the case I would imagine any blank or current coin would have been suitable or just poorly prepared dies?
Even with the hole in it (which makes it even more unique and interesting) that's an amazingly low price of $4700 for the Chris Aable specimen, which has sharper details than the Ford example, particularly in the neatly spaded-out denticles.
OLD THREAD
if it helps to point someone in the right direction, VAMS do have several examples for this type of feature called "denticle clashes."
so if you connect with the correct person/group, i think a collaboration could yield some interesting information.
