1831 Bust Quarter G-T-C : NGC -> PCGS ~ GRADE POSTED

This is an 1831 B-6 reduced size quarter that is another recent cross from NGC to PCGS. It's a lustrous and mostly untoned example which should appeal to ricko more than some of the other quarters I've recently posted. Interesting how the denticles struck up, particularly on the reverse. What do you like for an NGC and PCGS grade on this one?

Jump back in your time machine and you will find out that the coin you posted was cleaned?????
Most of the coins that look like yours were cleaned (a while ago).
I don't doubt that many coins which look like the one I have posted may have been lightly or otherwise cleaned/dipped at some point in their past.
You just have to consider the factors if you want to venture a guess on the grades. Was it cleaned? If so harshly? Would NGC or PCGS give it a details or straight grade? Would a straight grade be netted?
I can tell you that this coin isn't hairlined and is nice in appearance. I guess the important point often mentioned on the Forum is that I like the coin.

Dipped in the past? Maybe. I don't care. That's 100% market-acceptable as far as I'm concerned. Quite a stunner.
I'll pass on guessing any technical grades right now. It certainly has eye appeal.
Some wild guessing:
NGC AU-58
PCGS AU-55+

Beautiful coin but those rims look damaged.
You say it was a cross so I assume in hand it can be explained, but they appear to have an issue.
Dipped, not cleaned. The mint luster is still evident, and all I see are light marks from handling.
There is a difference between dipped and cleaned, and I wish some of you would take the time the learn the difference before you dispurage another collector's coins.
The only reservation I have about the piece is on the reverse rim beside the word "AMERICA." It might just be the lighting. I am guessing that this is in an MS-61 or 62 holder.
I have something similar to this in an NGC AU-58 holder.
Lovely coin.... I really like the reverse.... great detail... I would venture a 62 grade.... I may have my 'owners goggles' on (even though it is not my coin)... I really like it. Cheers, RickO
Lovely coin...I'd guess it's in a 62 holder...and would guess that was the NGC grade as well.
N 62, P 58.
Agree with BillJones in that the coin has definitely NOT been "cleaned". Lightly dipped but has alot of remaining luster and does not have that washed-out appearance that many "white" coins have from being dipped once too often. I'd guess MS61-62 but it's a fine line between AU58 and the lower mint state grades. Tell us!!!!
JRocco,
I would say that's a good "first impression" you mention (re: damaged rims) and fortunately, there is nothing wrong with the rims - this particular die marriage can exhibit various degrees of rim weakness. I posted a section from our quarter book which shows two examples having some weakness. Hope the picture turns out....

The coin was in an NGC MS62 holder, and crossed to PCGS MS61. I thought it would stay MS62 due to its look. Its from the Norweb collection, and I then purchased it from the Charlton Meyer collection.
Nice 1831, Bill. Thank you for commenting on the rims 1Bustcollector. Thank you for the comments and guesses.
