I've been looking for 1776 escudos for some time and was disappointed to have missed the following coin. I'm dumbstruck by how gorgeous it looks!

KM-415.1 variety, Charles III type. Struck at the Madrid mint.
Nothing less than the finest 1776-dated example of any escudo denomination we have ever offered on this site, with superb surfaces, booming luster and the lovely color one would expect at this grade level.

That's a pretty coin! You have to be quick on the draw for some of the coins for these well known dealers with huge mailing lists. I feel your pain!
Super coin

Beautiful coin... what did it sell for?? Cheers, RickO
John is definitely on the short list of dealers who routinely offer superb pieces.

What a beauty. Gotta be speedy on the mouse with those CRO emails.
So nice it almost looks "unreal." Someone snagged a beauty!
Wow, that one looked great!!
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I've come to realize that any choice gold coin offered by CEO in its early bird email flies away very quickly.
You need to act swiftly and decisively if you see something you need.

Wow, that's gorgeous!!
Not sure as I was too late. Does anyone know?
It was listed at 3,150. My guess is that's what it sold for.
That was pretty funny, Roger!

Countries that were in the top tier politically put forward their best designs, especially in the royal gold issues. If I recall at that point Great Britain was engaged in military actions with a number of countries and/or protecting its far-flung economic and political interests, America's rebellion was a royal pain for them. Spain had a great run in the age of discovery.
Very nice coin.
Yep, that was gorgeous. John Agre tends to keep his eyes out for 1776-dated stuff. If you let him know you want such a piece, he'll try to make it happen.

The coin quality, not the face...
Whenever I see a coin that amazingly awesome and pristine, I think, "Wow, that coin had an incredibly boring journey through time."
We can bid on the same coin any time
I've missed dozens of great coins at CRO. I will miss dozens more at CRO in the future. Sometimes, I am able to snag one. His taste in world gold is, like pretty much everything else, superb.
Best, SH
Quite impressive!

I happened to see the EarlyBird moments after it was sent out, and I noticed that piece right off. I was very tempted to grab it, but I had just purchased this one, in an early era PCGS Secure holder (so no high rez TrueView) graded MS63. But if that hadn't happened, I would have pulled the trigger on CRO's coin!!
Now this one isn't dated 1776, which is a very popular year, but I am also a fan of the year 1783 as that is the year when Benjamin Franklin introduced the Libertas Americana medal to the world (and for this one, the underdate of 1777 would coincide with the pivotal American victory at Saratoga, as well).
amazing piece
