CAC results are in - quick turnaround time - a couple head scratchers, as usual

Kudos to the CAC staff for their ever so prompt service! There were some nice choices made, and a couple of head scratchers too. The 1853 25C was a big surprise. I batted .500 this time around (5/10) for new (to me) submittals, plus a couple of re-submittals after the variety was added.

At the end of the day, it just another opinion, and there are some that I don't agree with.

My favorites are the 1845 followed by the 1853 in very close second.

I really like the 1853 25c and think you had good results overall.

Looks like the 78-S $1 may have been held back by the stain/spot by "trust" because it looks like a very wholesome 45 otherwise. I didn't know that CAC would even look at Ike's?

Thats why I don't believe in CAC, just another opinion on another day subject to change.

The "spot" by TRUST is a lamination peel...I believe.

Yep, CAC will accept MS Ikes.

Hey, I'd buy the '53 25C....Looks pretty wholesome to me! But wonder if what appears to (maybe?) be a couple of field scratches on the obverse is the issue? (Front of the knee, behind the arm on left?)

As for the Ike, it's such a lofty grade, it's just a matter of CAC deciding it's better than "just" a really nice MS-67....flip a coin.

Most of the coins in the OP are keepers...the 1845 H10C RPD FS-302 and the 1872-S H10C MM Below MPD FS-302 are in my BST pile, along with a few others.

I realize you didn't ask for it and I am only guessing as these are the only images I have to go by, but the 1845 half-dime might have been over-dipped and the luster impaired for the AU58 grade while they might not have liked the planchet roller marks on both sides of the 1872-S half-dime. Obviously, both are guesses. The 1878-S Trade dollar sure looks like it has had spot removal done on the obverse, but you indicate otherwise.

That is a nice group of coins. I hope I don't step on your toes, but here are my reasons why the coins that did fail to CAC didn't CAC.

1845 half dime - It's a scarce coin for sure, but I think that it was dipped has re-toned mostly on the obverse. The reverse looks dull and washed out for the AU-58 grade.

1853 Arrows and Rays Quarter - This one is a bit of a head scratcher. Perhaps the powers at be did not care for the toning, but it's a coin I'd buy in a second for AU-50 money.

1872 Half Dime - This is the one coin I don't care for in the MS-65 grade. I would say that it looks to be an extremely nice MS-64 with a couple of spots.

1878-S Trade Dollar - At the EF-45 level, this coin is a bit of head scratcher. Perhaps the very minor spotting and some dullness may have left CAC with thought that they did not want to support it in the market.

1972-S Ike - MS-68 is an extremely lofty grade for one these pieces. There is some minor spotting, and when you get to this near perfect grade, things like that matter.

Generally agree with Bill Jones here.

1845 half dime. Doesn't look natural.

1853 Arrows and Rays Quarter toning is likely the issue.

1872 Half Dime - rev spot on right wreath too obvious. The roller marks don't help. Miss Liberty's central figure is a much lighter color than the rest of the obverse. Doesn't quite look 100%.

The 1845 H10C and the 1943 1C are obviously not TrueView images and the toning on the 1845 H10C looks like blued steel to me (although I am color blind). Once I get her back I send her back out for some better images.
