VF35, nice wholesome looking coin.
VF35
VF-35, could slab as an EF-40.
I would agree with BillJones here... a nice looking specimen... Cheers, RickO
Nice coin with no problems, I'd say XF40
XF40
VF35
VF35 Ya realize ya have to have the coin graded now that you did a GTG!
Haha... I prefer my coins naked!

LOL! No offense but I think the coin was overgraded. I want the haircurls above the ear defined and in the Bun also!
Nice circulated example- Perfect for a 7070 album or your favorite type set album.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Coming late to the party . . . . .I would have said XF40. Solid coin!

I agree with the 45 grade.
I was going to say 30.

I was going to say 40.......and would NEVER have taken it out of slab.
I think many of you are grading on the lack of detail in the strike rather than wear. That's a TPG XF coin all day, IMO.
I think that 45 sounds right. Nice coin.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

I bought this coin largely based on the color and original surfaces.

The ol' strike v. wear conundrum. High points on the obv are the eyebrow and hair above and in front of the ear but not the bun. with the bun somewhat soft, along with other hair curls and LIBERTY I think weak strike and wear of about a 40.
I know that EAC and PCGS grade to different standards?
This. I bought a Coronet head LC from a well known dealer at one of last years' Baltimore shows. He had it graded 45+... I think I put the coin up here for a gtg and most put it at 50-58... with a couple of MS guesses...

I have a '39 Head of '40 large cent from Tom Reynolds; the coin has slight rub and traces of original rub....his grade XF45, NGC graded it MS61, PCGS graded it AU53, my grade is AU58.
Late to the thread but my gut was 40

What any B&M shop would sell as XF.
More recent images... I'm playing around with lighting and white balance. Also, the macro setting on my Canon Powershot...

does the reverse look xf45?
These photos show better obverse detail than the original, so I will up my grade from VF35 to XF40, FWIW now LOL.
I guess if I acquired a better camera set up and photography skills, all of my circulated coins could get a 5 pt bump?! lol!! ;-)

I agree!
I'd say XF-40. Nice color and surfaces! Decent strike.
I knew it would happen.
