Your 1896 almost jumped out at me as a polished "proof." But it is in a holder.

I got this 1880 MS64 for $101 tonight. I can remember MS64 1880 Morgans going for $400-$500 back in 1989. While it's not that era any more. This date usually looks pretty scuffy and/or dullish in any grade of 64. This one has a 66 reverse, decent color, and some interesting obv and rev die clashes to boot. If not for a few ticks around the mouth/chin, it's pretty clean.

Did you buy that one also?....$21. Sometimes there are some reasonable deals on GC.

Skipped the 1896-O. Got this though for under $150.

Looks like a 66 rev with a 64 obv. Nice pick up

I'm waiting for the day when reverses become "politically correct" and no longer carry less weight vs. the obverse. Coins like this will be average graded to MS65. >:)

Most would but I am intrigued by the unusual. That coin should have never seen the inside of a slab.

Actually, many folks who send coins in don't know how their coins are polished, damaged or harshly cleaned. It's very hard to reach them and educate them as they do not go to shows, belong to clubs, or read numismatic periodicals. It's sad.

This should be posted in the recent Morgan thread, (65s for under $130) or something similar to that effect. as it just enforces the declining prices realized in the series. Nice pick ups though.

I wonder if this was a house coin because the consignor is effectively netting around melt and it makes little sense to consign a coin like that.

    Congratulations to the OP!
