Thursday At Long Beach
I went to pick up a coin @ Heritage and do meet and greets with people I see at shows. Traffic seemed lighter than the Jan/February show.
I was offered two nice coins. I passed on both of them, as I thought they were each 20% overpriced based on what my rep at Heritage told me plus what I saw on CoinFacts.
Still, I enjoyed going to the show because I saw a number of really special coins (of course, I couldn't afford any of them.) Legend has a really cherry 1814 Crosslet 4 in MS 65 RB with a sticker - it's "all there" at its next auction. I also saw a really nice 1811 Classic Large Cent in 4 BN with excellent surfaces. I also saw a problem free 1818 Quarter in an OGH in MS 64, plus the nicest 1799 Bust Half in AU 58 I've ever seen.
One guy had four different 1849 Half Cents in MS 64 and MS 65 BN. The guy from Tom Bean, Texas had a nice run of circulated Small Eagle Bust $s. A number of later date Unc. BN and RB Large Cents were available. Also saw some nice MS 65 Barber Halves, including an 04 S in MS 65. Katy Duncan had some nice MS 66 early date SLQs. There were plenty of circulated to lower end Unc. Seated Dollars available.
Many dealers seem to think they can get retail prices for their coins from collectors. Maybe they can. But unless the coin is truly exceptional, not from me.
Even if you don't plan on buying anything, it's worth a visit to see some coins you normally won't find and to keep your eyes sharp and see in person what is getting in to the various numbered holders.

Networking seems to be main goal at shows, although I DO look and sometimes hold some coins that are way outta my leauge. Shooting the breeze with old acquaintances and making new ones seems to be a highlight of any coin show that am able attend.
Thank you for your time making this post.
