FAKE 1889-cc NEW CAMERA CLOSE UP......
Back story, Won this 89cc on eBay, sent to our host. Got it body bagged as added mint mark. Opened a not as described case. Case got resolved in favor of the seller! Reason: "Since you sent the item in the mail to be graded by a 3rd party, that voids any eBay Money back Guarantee Coverage."
So, just got off the phone with eBay high value rep and got my refund. Told to keep the coin. Rep fully understood my dilemma on sending to eBay approved grading service and that then voids their guaranty!
Good old eBay! Love them, again.

Glad you were made whole ... but what a policy!

Bob,
Could you post a closeup pic of the mint mark area? Looks pretty decent from afar...
TIA,

Hard to tell from far away, any close-up photos? The mint mark does look to have a different color than the rest of the coin though.
Got to love the protections eBay provides as a buyer.
Sure fooled me to the tune of $78. Wonder why not TV it as I paid for that and it would be a helpful educational tool for all.

Glad things worked out.
I remember your original post on this purchase.
Looks like the Ebay seller had more than one 89-cc.
Makes you wonder if the gold coins that were sold are also fake.

Here is a pic of the other 89-cc from same seller. CC mint mark looks fatter than usual I wonder what the source is for the added mint mark.
thats nuts! How did they even do it? looks pretty good
Many members on this forum that now it cannot fit in my signature. Please ask for entire list.
Once I notified him that PCGS said it was bad he offered me an ounce of gold and cash, then when I said no to that he offered me a graded $10 gold piece. I said no, just refund me. Then he changed his tune and said no refund as that's what it says in the auction and he'd fight me to the end. Oh well, the thrills of shopping for coins on ebay...!!
@AUandAG there should be more people like you in this world
$78 was the grading fee at PCGS. $1,340 was the purchase price. Was listed as a 1989cc or some such mistake.

Thanks Lee.

I see the slight color difference now that it's blown up this big.

The shape of the C's is correct and whoever did this has some talent. When I received it I was pretty stoked. I saw that the dollar was not a fake and it had the correct CC's. I thought it was a "far date" VAM perhaps a VAM 6. Vamworld does not have a pic of that VAM of course.
So, off it went to PCGS. I expected a possible cleaned obverse and would not have cared if that had been the case and $1,340 would still have been okay.
Never suspected that it had added mint marks

His 2014 W gold eagle uncirc that sold for $2149 is a decent fake. The mintmark is too small and the date is the wrong font.
Freedom is like inflation: you lose 2-3% every year. Slow enough that you don't even notice.
Glad you got your money in the end. That could be stress!
I do have a new camera set up and will be working on taking pics tomorrow night when my tutor gets here. So, with luck we will have better pics.
Yes, he did ship via USPS.
I'll be leaving negative feedback.
bob:)
Hmmmm, blocked from leaving any feedback on this transaction.....wonder why that happened. Open case, case closed, appealed loss return, now win case.....but not able to leave feedback. Guess eBay knew what I'd do but wonder why they wouldn't want me to warn others.
bob:(
Won't try the message thing....he was off his rocker with the last three messages he send me....Not going to go there. Life is way to short for that shit.

File through Post office? mmm. Try secret service for counterfeit currency/coins.

Don't know his name....but he's from: SCHERERVILLE, IN 46375
Didn't keep the packaging.

Paypal shows sellers name as: fancy diamonds
weird.
bob
feedback shows he buys a lot of cheap jewelry from china, most likely for resale. Probably same place he buys his coins.

Here's an ebay link where you can report his counterfeit sold items

That second closeup-up pic clearly shows the added mint mark. The area around it is definitely rougher than the surrounding field and also different in color (as mentioned by others). Wow.

So frustrating! I hate thieves.!.!
Wow... without magnification or close inspection, that looks authentic... Your picture though, when magnified, clearly shows the MM to be tooled in some manner...That is nasty... Glad you were recompensed. Cheers, RickO
I respectfully disagree. The boundary of the "color difference" is sharp; in other words, the lighter color around the mint mark does not fade into the surrounding field area. The surface texture is also different. Clearly, the mint mark area has been messed with. Whether or not it is enough to say the mint mark has been added is moot - just the fact that it has been messed with should be enough to steer anyone away from the coin (no fault to the OP - you couldn't tell from the original pics).

I could not leave negative feedback because I had already left positive feedback! So, I modified my feedback to add that PCGS said it was counterfeit.
Now that I did that the seller has managed to have my feedback removed completely. What a scumbag.
bob
Newest close up clearly shows how difficult it would be to determine the added mint marks when in hand. Subtle field polishing which certainly could look like pocket wear. I don't fault myself for missing this but thank PCGS for catching it. C's are the proper shape and size. This was done expertly and I hope I never see another!
bob
Glad to see you were refunded your money.
Here's a 85CC that needs to go, haven't searched for fakes in a while, took me all of 30 seconds to find this one.

I notice several listings on the "we sell counterfeits" sites list the counterfeit silver dollars as e pluribus unum coins
Horrible fake, reported.
bob
I have not shopped for CC Morgans in a long time... and based on these inputs, probably will not be in the future... Cheers, RickO
