    18-30 11% 23 votes
    66+ 12% 25 votes

    Not a good sign.

Why do you say that? A similar number of "younger" voters and "older" voters would seem to be a good thing, would it not?

How many of the 18-30 age group are married with kids and will still stay with this hobby after all the bills paid? And how many of these 23 voters would continue to stay in this hobby for another 36+ years without being distract to something else?

The number of collectors should be a lot greater at younger age and slowly decrease. Not the other way around.

When the kids leave, you realize how much money and time you have on your hands now. Then you get pulled back in. Honestly, even if you have all that going on you can still be involved in the hobby. You might not be buying 10K coins but if it's something you enjoy you make time for it even if it's your yearly ASE.

I'm 28 married with a son and a house. I have a middle paying job. I have been with my company for 8 years. (non coin related) I have been collecting now for about 5 years. I started my collection with a single Washington 1964 silver quarter. I now have a really nice and complete Peace Dollar set. I plan to upgrade my set and eventually have over a $20,000 set. I think you start with something small and keep adding and trading up till you eventually have a nice set. I know I am just a small fish in this forum. I love the hobby and I enjoy looking at and buying up.

Early 30s here. I started collecting at 27.

I am always seeing people start collecting at all ages.

These polls are skewed because many old dudes don't use a computer much less a coin forum on the internet.

All younger people use computers .....

Short of the ancients, most of the old timers are plugged in now.

As an incipient ancient, I am thrilled to have an app to remotely regulate my manually plugged-in oxygen supply. What used to take 3.42 seconds of manual labor now has transmogrified into 1.83 secs of button pushing. Practical knowledge.
Is there a grading app that can help the "kids" today grade a coin that quickly? o:):o

On this topic, self-trolling may be the least-worse way to age gracelessly. coinlieutenant continues to troll me mercilessly via PM and email about letting my personal issues on aging permeate my world-view. He's on-target more often than one might expect of someone of such tender years. >:)

247 contributors so far... out of the thousands on this board, that is a very small sample. Let's keep this bumped for the weekend and see what transpires. Cheers, RickO

Many have gone on to that great Wayte Raymond folder in the sky.

The relatively low percentage of age 66+ voters may be the "sleeper" indicator of this poll. Think about it. Just why isn't this percentage higher? Are collectors in this age group dropping out for any number of reasons or are they just dying off?

    All glory is fleeting.
