Quality Red Copper has vanished from Heritage Auctions

It is not my imagination. They keep offering retreads and 1940's and 50's graded plus coins.
As Laura Sperber would say " Drek ".
Their list of gem Indian cents are non existent.
Has D.L. Hansen bought everything ?
Are the great coins in such strong hands that no one is selling ?

A lot of good coins appear to be in "strong hands" that are not selling. I've had some coins on my want list forever, and they almost never appear in Heritage aucitons. The dealers don't have them at bourse floors either. When few there are seem to problem pieces which are sometimes marked as such and sometines not. Many offerings are of coins that have been "processed" by coin doctors to make them "shine like the Chrysler Building."
I am not talking about super rarities. They are coins that qualify as "scrace."
Maybe you will have to switch to "quality" purple copper
Latin American Collection
In general I see fewer quality coins available at auction, at least for the areas I look in. I think it's because the market is trending down. People are less likely to let go of coins when there isn't the prospect of making money, or at least making your money back.

There are a few nice Red large cents in the upcoming Goldberg auction, but not many.
Lots of gorgeous R&B ones, though.
With some exceptions, why would you sell in this market if you don't have to do so?
There is nothing wrong with R&B and brown Mint State large Cents. I have "toyed with" a date set of them in recent years. Red is way over rated, especially when it comes from a bottle.
I'm with you on that, Bill.
Some of the red large cents have some nasty little spots, etc. that apparently are overlooked due to the age and scarcity.....give me a lustrous R&B, or brown with tinges of red any day.
Just curious bill what coins are these on your list that you are referring to?
I've seen this and was wondering if all the ones with the dark spots have been helped?
agree, I'm not a big believer in 170 yrs old full red copper coins. I'd prefer chocolate to walnut BN color with fewer spots as possible.
I'll let you know after I find them. If I were to lay out my want list here, it would probably only make harder for me if the right piece shows up in an auction. I've placed the want list with a couple of dealers and have gotten no results.
Oh ok, no worries. There is a local b&m near me that has a good selection of nice old copper, I was going to keep an eye out. Maybe I can pm the store info to you if you want.
I belong to EAC, but I am not a huge copper collector. Beyond the classic types I only dabble with a date of large cents now and then.
