The U.K. has now issued a one pound coin with security features to prevent counterfeiting... Very interesting.

Pretty cool! Kinda crazy that 1 in 30 £1 coins is counterfeit.

I also like their polymer £5 bill...the ones vegans are worked up about because it contains traces of animal fat. I mean, if it offends you don't eat the bill, right?
    Lance.

Lol. Vegans are kinda crazy to begin with, I know a few, so their wining about that is not surprising. However, I think they should make it pure Pig fat and heavily publicize it if you get my drift.

I wouldn't mind owning a couple myself. Yes, ricko, interesting is the word. The UK has been plagued with counterfeiting for quite sometime now. I wounder how much this'll help?. Cool looking coin and a high tech idea.

Interesting Rick. I have some of the "old" pounds, curious what the counterfeits look like, and how they were made. This raises more questions- I wonder if the "Loonies $1" and "Toonies $2" up North of us are counterfeited as well, and if a problem? Is this a barrier to entry with our Sacagaweas / Pres. Dollars in eliminating the paper dollar? I guess I never realized coins were counterfeited to this degree in the U.K., and wonder how these red flags prevent the elimination of the dollar- that is If it is the case.

I have not heard any reports of Canadian coin counterfeiting..... Nor do I think this has ever been stated as a fear in eliminating our $1 dollar bill.... Dollar coin counterfeiting would not seem very profitable, unless high volume were achieved. Cheers, RickO

Living in the UK it is fairly big talk right now. We have until October to get rid of the previous 1 pound coins.

The 5er's are quite cool but they are very slippery and the criticism is that they slip out of your pocket. Either way great innovations.

@Boosibri.... What method of obtaining these would you recommend? Direct from the Royal Mint? I am not interested in slabbing them, just as interesting coins to examine ....Cheers, RickO

I'm back to the US once a month. Next week is my next trip. If I can get some of these I'll post it here and will send them out if folks are interested, first come first serve after I post that I acquire them excluding Ricko who is automatically qualified.
