Delaware Commemorative Half Dollar and Related Items.
I was born and raised in Delaware and still feel some times to the state. I have long looked for the "perfect" Delaware commemorative half dollar have yet to find it. In addition to that I have added other realted items to the 1838 Delaware Tercentury celebration. Here they are.
The coin
Folder that housed the coins when they were issued.
Cover of the program book that was sold with the celebration.
Illustration of the Delaware commemorative half dollar that was shown in the book. It does not exactly match the finished design that was issued.
Small history book that was issued at the time of the celebration.
Large bronze medal that was issued during the celebration. This was also issued in silver, but I have only seen pictures of that one. If you have one you would like to sell I would be very interested.
Small bronze medal. This piece is listed as a So-Called Dollar.
That wraps up the American side. The next post will cover the Swedish items that were issued at the same time.
Comments
The Swedish Government also participated in the celebration because they were the first to settle in the Delaware area, in the modern day Wilmington area.
Here is a Swedish 2 Kr.
Bronze Swedish medal. This and the following, I believe are quite rare.
Silver Swedish medal
And some photos ...
Old Swedes Church as it looked a couple of years ago.
The modern re-built Kalmar Nyckel (II), the ship depicted on the half dollar.
Nice thread! I also lived in Delaware for some time. I have been eyeing the commemorative half lately. Even held one yesterday.

Good stuff. It is cool that the church is still standing from 1699. Just noticed the folder reads that the Ship is the obverse. That's news to me.

Commems and Early Type
Bill, were you in northern DE or southern?
Great items! Most I have never seen and I am a Delaware native, too.
Somewhere around 2000-ish, I remember hearing John Kraljevich discovering a plaster cast of the prototype Delaware. Pictures and a story of his find were written up in the Commemorative Trail. It was a nice antique shop find.
Southern Delaware, "A down homer." The northern guys used to like to look down their noses at us. I remember them singing "The Farmer in the Dell" when they beat us in a state basketball tournament game.
I like those medals.
Have never seen them before.
Nice to see state pride and it shows in your thread.
