Anyone want to message this seller that his two coins are fakes?
I'm talking to him but he's not believing.

Ask him to do the magnet test and tell him if they stick to a magnet, then it's real. My guess is you'll get the truth this way...
Has a FB rating of 34, with only 2 of them from buyers of Xboxes. Gullible newb seller or scammer ?
Apparently the jig is up on the 1885-CC - no bids with same time remaining as on the 'bogus '93-S.
Both reported as undisclosed replicas and as counterfeits.

wow. that, is, bad.
.
it bums me out to see this stuff because it is lose - lose - lose. honest or dishonest.
the good thing? at least i can now buy a light saber from an evil sith TO fight the forces of evil with.
thanks auandag!
no serious numismatist would dare go without one of these to protect his hoard.
He's a neighbor it seems and said he took them to the local shop and had them examined before putting them up. I called him out on that as I know the owners would never have said it's real. I offered to meet him there at the shop this afternoon but really do not want to waste my time. Just let him know and he'll back off probably. IF not I'll get to know a neighbor that might have some REAL coins?
Ha

i like the optimistic, good thinking.
on the other hand, if we see your name on the NCIC, we'll know whom the prime suspect is.
in any event, thanks for staying in the fight. i've no doubt some good comes about from all this uncompensated effort.
.
Being the newb that I am, I must ask, what tells you they are fake?
Well, for starters they just do not look right. Mushy details and such. The upon closer look you can see the 1 in the date is not in the correct position over the dentil. It's between two and that tells me it's fake as there was only one obverse used in SF in 1893. The 85cc is just plain junk and looks it.
Does that help?
bob
Not him but did send a message to eBay in the form of two reports.
Just got off the phone with the owner of the shop he claims to have taken the dollars to and he said, Nope, not here. Hmmmmmm, I'll still meet him in person at 3 if he wants. Any guesses he will show?
I'm terrible at spotting fakes but that screams it from a mile away.
Nte sent: "Your coin is not real. Be careful as selling this type of coin can ruin your eBay reputation, not to mention it is illegal to deal in counterfeit US currency"
It is a harmless "fantasy" coin that is obvious to all of those in the know. No one would possibly be fooled into thinking this was a genuine 1893-S Morgan Dollar as struck by the Mint. Accordingly, neither the seller nor producer have any moral or legal culpability, or so I have been admonished by forum experts.
I'll report it and move on! I hope others will follow suit.

Wow they are really bad. Whoever made them wasn't even trying
HAPPY COLLECTING
Okay, sent him a message I'm ready to meet.....ten minutes ago......we'll see if he responds.
bob
The bidding is up to $5900 USD this is getting out of hand...
all around collector of many fine things
I suspect the winning bidder will not be paying....
bob:)
Yes, when you are retired you can mess with folks......good hobby for us old guys. LOL
bob
Amazing that someone willing to spend nearly six grand on a 93-s wouldn't even check the coin against a known good coin...
There will be no winner
Well, so much for meeting at 3.....no show and I went to the coin shop and they have not seen him either, of course.
bob:)
I suspected that after the bid went from 1K to 5K in one jump. Somebody's not going to be too happy when waiting for the payment.

.
Moron??? Moron???? Really Lance? Them's fight'n words, 'eh?
I love mess'n with sellers of fakes....moron or not....over 7k now.
bob

The underbidder would be assuming that it isn't another poster also bidding to keep someone else from being cheated.

16K now, LOL
Now people are playing with him. lol
You guys are going to give him a heart attack!
Lance.
He isn't going to be too pleased when he gets the notice from eBay that it is killing the auction.
I agree. I figure he'll blame Bob so the rest of us are safe.
Lance.
I'm sure he will and we live in the same neighborhood! Yikes!! Rattl'n in my shoes!! Can't wait for ebay to take their share if it goes all the way and then him having to ship it Registered, etc.
bob:):)
Oh damn, that 85cc is over a grand now and it's ..................................................................................just junk.
bob
lol. I just locate a group of shill bidding suspects. Aka Coin-Justice-League
.
Wowzer! 100 Bids and over $40,000. That is close to AU58 money.
Wow. I need some popcorn. You guys are hilarious.
$45,099 -
I hope eBay gets stuck with compensating smoeone. The seller ain't even smart enough to see that someone bid against themselves through a range of $29K. (15,999 > 44,999) Blinded by greed ?

Newbie to the forums too, but here's what I see...Side by side of an authentic backside and the one being discussed. Lack of details...rim doesn't look correct, position of the star, below the 'A' in "AMERICA' is off, 'S' mint mark too big...

The lack of detail in the two wreath leaves above N of ONE on the suspect coin is a RED FLAG.

Good points in general but with 93s which is THE most counterfited Morgan only 1 obverse die was used on the originals and it was a far date position. The date position on this fake is a near date. That's all you need to know.
Count how many denticles away the left side of the bottom of the 1 Is in relation to the neck point on the authentic ones and then compare to this one...
