Screw the ratings.
I have, unintentionally, listed as spam several threads while trying to figure out how not to do so and how to check your own ratings. It's painfully obvious that us old guys (at least me) do not have any inkling as to the workings of the rating system.
My apologies to those thread owners that I have listed as spam. It was not my intent to do so. Stupid is.........

You can always go back and remove those spams.
Go back to the "flag" area, and click "spam" again. That removes it if previously selected. None of these clicks is permanent. They can always be changed.
If I had confidence I could do that I would. I don't trust me.
Well, RR , could you send me a walk through PM?

Thanks for trying to make things right but let us not all obsess about the spam/disagree 'clicks',

I never look at them. I just read the posts and comments and go on as always. Guess I'm "old school" too. It works for me
Thank you much for posting this and explaining.
I agree that the like button is dangerously close to flag, at least on mobile. I bumped it trying to like posts a few times and closed the window in horror, before any choice was made.
This is a great community full of respectable folks.
Best wishes

We should form a secret society of respectable members............but someone would infiltrate our group....
And just to keep it coin related:

I empathize with this statement. I have never intentionally hit the "disagree" button intentionally, but have done it by accident a couple times. Naturally, as soon as I noticed I undid that but it has always left me wondering how many times I did that and never realized it.
Soooo, if I ever disagreed with anyone's post out there, it wasn't intentional.
I would have preferred that the new software allowed members to opt out of the rating system. By that I mean the choice to opt out of being subjected to ratings would also prevent participation in rating others.

I'm surprised people even keep up with these. There is no value to the ratings.
I looked and I have three disagrees, two come from a comment about Trump.. I guess maybe disagree is a new form of protesting I haven't heard about yet?

It's all good AUandAG. Don't worry about it.
Not to worry... I have 213 disagrees.....
At one time, in the early days of this software revision, there were a few disagreeing with everything I posted....Even if it was a 'Welcome aboard' post...
The admin did remove a bunch of those, however, I do not worry about it.... If someone truly disagrees, then let's have an intelligent discussion.... I might even be persuaded....
Cheers, RickO
I'm a member of a mushroom forum (gourmet, edibles, hunting, photography) but it also has a scene vibe to it and unfortunately subforums of other not so earthy things you can put in your body. I thought it was funny watching junkies whine about ratings but it's almost as fun as watching coin collectors haha. =P
I want them to add a flag for "the poster is a nasty bastage"...then lots of you will get them. LOL
Rating system? Didn't know there was one. Does is serve any purpose?
l
It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you've got.
For the most part I agree the ratings are useless... but I think the buttons "like," "agree," etc. that seem to generate those ratings can be helpful in some cases.
For example, we regularly have threads where newbies are asking questions about coins, the forum, PCGS or whatever else. Sometimes, some other newbie will come along and give an incorrect response. The rest of us can quickly point out that it is incorrect by clicking "disagree." Likewise, we can quickly confirm a correct response by clicking "agree" or "like" when someone gives the right answer. Much easier than all of us responding to the post when someone else has already answered and much more helpful to the OP of such posts to see which answers are supported (or not supported) by the rest of us.
I also like clicking the "like" button when someone posts a really cool coin... just a quick and easy way to show others that I appreciate their post and their coin.
But I do agree that the stars or points or badges or whatever people seem to get for these things here don't mean much.

Fellas, leave the tight pants to the ladies. If I can count the coins in your pockets you better use them to call a tailor. Stay thirsty my friends......
I wouldn't worry about it, especially with those that appear to troll you. In any event, disagreement doesn't mean that you are wrong and is no reflection of your knowledge or judgment. It isn't like you are voted off of the boards if you have a certain number of disagrees.
It is like elementary school where stickers are given out. lol I guess these are electronic stickers for adults.
I like going through my disagree list. It lets me know if I'm off base and it's a learning experience. I accidentally gave a grade opinion on a coin the other day in the sun with brightness up on my phone. I saw how they disagreed. I've thanked people before for hitting it because I learned something.
You're right. Ratings don't matter.
What matters are Badges
You need the stinkin' Badges.
