I just depressed myself.

Just casting about considering what might be a ...."fun"..... thing to start and I says to myself, "Hey self, why don't you look at some modern commem DOLLARS?"
BIG SHINY THINGS !!
And back comes my answer, "Go look at the Redbook and see all the designs that you never paid any attention to because they are..... "moderns. "
And, well..... I gave up on THAT idea.

That must have been a nightmare!!
Shhhhh. I'm still recovering.
I happen to like the designs on a number of modern commem dollars:
Here are some in the next tier down for me:
Here's a CoinFacts image of the POW dollar:
You're forgetting the 2001 Buffalo Comm.. A beautiful Modern!
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.A modern with the design of a classic! I think the 2001 Buffalo dollar is neat but I like the Buffalo gold much better. The Buffalo needs to have a textured field for me.
You're right! The Gold is much prettier. It's just I can't afford any Gold. LOL
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. There are some modern commem designs which are not that bad......I like the 1999 $5 Geo. Washington and the $5 FDR coin.
Everyone has their own preferences of course.
@joeykoins the silver actually looks pretty good under Phil's eye here!
Sure, there are no textures in the field, but on the Chief and Black Diamond, there certainly is! I'd say, that makes up for it.
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I don't want to criticize any of your beautiful chosen coins but the 2009 Lincoln Dollar, doesn't the portrait of Abe remind you of the Warden in the movie, "Escape from Alcatraz" with Clint Eastwood? Esp. how the prisoner that painted his portrait?

"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I personally don't see the similarity but everyone looks at faces differently. The rendition actually reminds me more of Luke Perry. Here's one of Phil's renditions for comparison:
From a modern design perspective, the issue with the 2001 Buffalo Dollar and 1999 Washington Half Eagle is that while they were struck recently, the designs are old designs. From that perspective they are more similar to the 2016 gold versions of the Mercury Dime, SLQ and WLH. Nothing wrong with old designs as we as coin collectors like them, they are just not modern designs for the purposes of this discussion.
Close. Eyes may be a bit crazy. Excuse my crude MSpaint skills.
night sweats?
bob:)
That's a good idea!
Sorry, Patrick Mcgoohan (Actor in the Movie)
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.Keep going. More hair, thinner cheeks, more pensive look and then you almost have it!
As mentioned, Lincoln looks more like Luke Perry to me.
It has seemed to me that the modern commemative half Dollars often have had better designs than the Dollars despite the fact that the designer had less space to use. The trouble is all but a couple of them are clad coins which is not as attractive as silver.
Do you like any of the dollars?
Here's Phil's rendition of the Bald Eagle Dollar, proof CoinFacts and unc TrueView:
Sorry to you modern collectors, but the really nice modern designs are redesigned/remakes of old well designed coins! JMHO
It reminds me of the retro mustang, camaro, and challenger. No new ideas-lets just put a spin on some classics. The public will buy it.

Except in the case of the retro cars , they just copied the look and left out the soul of the originals. Like if I wanted a mach 1 mustang where do I check the box to delete the rear view camera , the heated seats, and the other 2000 pounds of useless garbage they think we can't live without.
The GT350R actually does delete a bunch of those. The below is from the Ford build your car website:
Initially there was no option to add back the rear seats but it was so popular, you can add it back now, along with a radio if you really want it.
Beyond the bare bones things from before, the Mustang is getting rebuilt so it can satisfy new drivers, not just ones that grew up with them the first time around, e.g. independent rear axle, carbon wheels, flat-plane crank, etc.
The GT350R is kind of like the UHR to me, old style, but modern manufacturing and technology.
"I just depressed myself."
Don't fret, it happens to all of us now and again.
If it happens more frequently you should have it looked at.
"If I say something in the woods and my wife isn't there to hear it.....am I still wrong?"
My Washington Quarter Registry set...in progress
Can you do that with any Ford now ? I was always jealous of the Chevy guys that could order every little detail of their new camaro all the way back in 1968 .
The Mustang GT350R actually does it for you because choosing the package removes all those items. Some of those can be added back as mentioned. Of course, most people probably want many of those things. For Camaro fans, the car is the ZL1. The thing about offering options that few people want is that sometimes you have so few buyers you can't offer the car at all, as in the case of the Camaro.
Or you could build your own retro...

No, this guy here is probably lacking a left ear.
There are some nice designs among the commemorative dollars... the Bald Eagle dollar above being one.... I would not consider doing the series (I have had enough of series anyway
)... However, as I usually do, I will get coins that appeal to me.... Cheers, RickO
No I'm not. That was the ONLY one I would pay for and then not as much as it's "worth" because I consider it bullion.
