US 25c 16-D LHQ, 1917 SLQ v2

Just wondering what you folks think of grade and value on these two pieces.

Paid 20 for the SLQ and 15 for the LHQ. They had just come in. I'm surprised I got a decent deal. Or did i?

It's my understanding these should be "worth" at least 50 a pop right?

The rim ding on the 1916 would make the value decrease by a lot in my opinion.

Ehh.. I think you got what you paid for there.
The Barber has a very nasty rim ding, I don't think many people would be interested in that piece for that reason.
The SLQ looks cleaned and to me it looks like it has a cap on. I couldn't stand seeing that everytime I looked at my collection.

The 1916-D is melt to me. The SLQ looks XF and worth $100 graded.

You think it would grade xf? I was thinking genuine / details / cleaned ... am I missing something on that one?

Thank you.. it's an upgrade for me. It replaced a slicker. :expressionless:

I've got a 17-D with no stars, but the date is gone and the only reason I know it's 17d is they didn't make a 16-D with no stars. It's a great piece otherwise which kills me that the date is gone. It's facing with reverse up in its holder just to showcase stars v no stars.

The 16d LHQ, that ding kills it for me but it's replacing another slicker. They were laying out and someone was putting cash in his wallet. In my excitement I thought it might be an error but unfortunately it's PMD.

Do you really think the SLQ is cleaned? And what does it having a "cap" mean? I just recently changed my light and lense, but it doesn't look cleaned. Looks like my other F-XF SLQs.

To me at least, I dunno, you're the experts =) and the whole "it's my new coin hoping for the best" thing still going.

Thank you. With my currently somewhat minimal budget, it's the best I'm gonna get for awhile so I am putting it in my tentative to-be-slabbed list. I really love the details on the shield. I'm surprised those details made it.

The 1916-D Barber is damaged and worth essentially melt, in my opinion, while the 1917 SLQ is a VF35/EF40 details coin that looks to have been cleaned. It might be the lighting, but the bad vertical gash on the eagle's wing and the digs in the wall around Ms. Liberty are likely there no matter what. In my opinion that coin is worth significantly less than the $100 guessed earlier.

It appears to me, you got what you paid for.... no real bargains, however, if they are upgrades to your set and you are happy, that is the most important part.... Cheers, RickO
