20-P buff, new and final? purchase for this date. Another GTG

I've been through a handful while working on my set. First was a raw piece with a great reverse but AU looking obverse that ultimately went to GC and sold as a 62. I then had one bought at a Baltimore show as NGC, then crossed to PCGS, that stayed in the set for many years, before going to a fellow board member. That piece was replaced with an Gold Stickered OGH 62, which I thought would be the end-all-be-all. Then I saw this. Purchased in an NGC holder and submitted raw, I just got my grades and Truviews yesterday. Hugely struck luster bomb with the vivid gold toning I so love. Take a stab at the grade...

The strike and die state on that coin are amazing-a real beauty! Looks to be at least a 65 IMO.

I think you might get a 66 out of this one, would be really tough to improve on.

I wish you had done GTG on this coin with CrazyHoundDog doing the photos, as he does such an awesome job. It's hard for me to tell what that spot is left of the date and impact on grade, but I will guess you bought it as a 64 and you got a 65 out of it.
If they had made Proofs that year, I would have been tempted to guess that, as it looks like '36 or '37 PF. Very impressive coin.

Thanks for everyone for playing along. The auction images showed a super hammered coin, and when the package arrived, it was one of those true holy s--t moments. Luster was way beyond what I had expected, and the color, as shown in the Truview, was a bonus not depicted in the original auction image. It was purchased in an NGC64 holder, and I knew immediately it would have to be reassessed on grade, and I needed it graded for PCGS for the registry regardless.

I was a bit dismayed, perhaps a tad bit shocked even, when it came back 64. It is a stunning coin regardless of grade, and perhaps it will make another trip to the grading shop at some point.

Just as pretty as can be. Cast the grade to the side, who cares? The coin stands out way beyond the grade assigned .
    Just lovely

I'd take that coin over many 65s I've seen. You just don't see a 20-P struck like that very often.

    That's a beauty. I'll say 65
