What do you do? (eBay feedback question)

If you have a good eBay transaction and leave positive feedback for the other person, and they don't leave feedback for you, do you send them a message asking them to leave feedback for you? If so, how long do you wait?
I do. If I haven't received feedback from them within 2 or 3 weeks, I send them a message saying something like this: "I have received this item and am very satisfied with it. I have left positive feedback for you and request the same. Thank you".

As a seller, I leave FB as soon as they buyer pays.
As a buyer, I look to see if the seller left me feedback, if so I leave them positive FB.
But If FB isn't important to them, then it is not important to me. One exception is a high volume seller with an automatic FB mechanism. I leave them FB and it is usually returned right away.
FB is only important to sellers. If you are just buying then 1000 positives and $3 gets you a cup of coffee.
If you are a seller, NEVER ask a buyer for feedback. I've seen sellers get:
I leave feedback for purchases... I am not a seller on ebay - of anything. Cheers, RickO
I leave FB on sale as soon as they pay, FB on purch as soon as received. It's simple to do from my phone.
Beyond that don't worry about it.
I leave feedback. About 30% of those who buy from me do not. Going on 16 years.

Sorry, but to me, feedback on a buyer is meaningless. You can only give a positive, so what is the point. A seller cannot preemptively block a buyer who has positive feedback, so it your feedback is 1 or 10000000 you can make a purchase.
Seller feedback is critical, and I always leave feedback on stuff I buy.
Why ask for feedback?
I had a seller ask me to leave him feedback 3 times in one day. I commented that it just might be possible that I am busy and will get around to it sometime. He then called me a name.
This is NOT how to go about it by the way.
I am 9 times out of 10 a buyer. As a matter of course I leave positive feedback. But I must admit .... it kinda peeves me a little when I don't receive feedback as a buyer. But oh well. I just let it go.
Insert witicism here. [ xxx ]
I am so busy that I stopped leaving feedback, sorry about that. If I am sent a note, Then I will leave feedback.
As a buyer, I almost never leave feedback because it is a way for people to track your purchases.
If you print labels on eBay, after it prints you have the menu on the right - just click on Leave Feedback. Your browser should remember a feedback line, so just select (*) Positive and click to post.
It literally takes 5 seconds.
whats 5 seconds times 5000 ??
I buy and sell on eBay and I never ask for feedback. I provide feedback on items that I buy and sell.
I used to get annoyed if they didn't leave it for me. Nowadays, I don't really care.
However if I see they can't be bothered in advance, I will likewise not bother to leave them any.

I wish eBay would automatically increment your feedback (positive) for sales that have passed after so many days. I bet I would have another 1,000+.

Well as you know it's 25000 seconds, or 6.9 hours.
But that is spread across 18 years you have been selling.
If you sell 46 per month, then it's 230 seconds. or 3.8 minutes a month.
Buyers like feedback, though I'm not sure why having an A+++ about an eBay transaction is so coveted.
But I think if you leave FB, you'll find more buyers will leave you feedback.
.
there should be a bulk feedback page to do multiple trans. at once. Isn't there also an automatic positive feedback option, possibly depending on account type. I've seen a lot of options vary from different account types/levels.
also, for every positive transaction that pos feedback isnt' left, that account has a harder time averaging out any less than optimal feedback/dsr etc.
this makes a huge difference to those wanting TRS and 20% discount or more.
kind of funny how people run to complain/leave negs but how cavalier they are sometimes for leaving positive.
i also agree about auto positive feedback/max dsr. unless you stop it from doing so as a buyer/seller with neu/neg less than 5 star. some of the dsr are this way or used to be based on certain requirements being met. i need to look into this again.

Thanks for the math as I did not do it.
Wow I am even happier now that I see that I have saved 6.9 hours, that is awesome.
As to people leaving me feedback, I couldn't care less .....
Out of my last seven or so sales, I think only 2 left feedback. Kind of annoying when you are trying to establish a feedback history as a seller but I won't ask for them to post any. So far I'm just dealing with low value stuff so it's not a big deal and somewhat expected.
Collector, occasional seller
Many drop off the cliff. Never hear a peep from them. I got over any feedback issues 15 years ago. Not worth worrying about.
bob:)
Let sleeping dogs lie. But with the new feedback system unresolved conflicts are the only killers in the short term on top rated status from what I've heard. Negs and neutrals not so much. I have always been surprised at the deliriously positive feedback sometimes, another seller said it is because many of the sellers shaft collectors while if you sell good stuff it is surprising to them.
I was thinking the same thing, I sold over 40 items last month and only 10 or so people left FB. And most of them have very high FB numbers. I always take a minute to leave it, both buying and selling.

There is a bulk feedback tool if you use ebay's new seller hub. There is a link to
Items sold awaiting feedback. You can click that link and either use personal greetings or the canned feedback. It even has an option to leave random feedback from the canned responses so not all will get the same one. I have used it when I have a ton of items going out at once.

I give feedback for sales & purchases. I feel others will & can do what they want.
And Grandpa said never poke a sleeping animal.
BTW there is a bulk page for feedback.
I always do the feedback--it hurts my OC tendencies to notice that little thing telling me how many items need feedback. Once I leave one I click on the 'leave more feedback' option and then I get a page showing me what is outstanding. It's convenient to make sure I'm not missing a purchase I've forgotten about.
As a seller I leave it as soon as tracking shows delivered. My idea there is that once it's arrived my part is done, and will perhaps jog memory so the buyer leaves a bit. I RARELY sell anything but that's what I do when it happens. Never have enough feedback to get a DSR. Oh well. And maybe 50% leave feedback, if that.
I post feedback in mass
easier than logging in for 1 thing. I always try to leave feedback. I have forgotten two or three times in 15 years.
iirc, it is against policy to solicit feedback but i have politely asked people, if they are happy with their item(s), to please take a moment to leave feedback/dsr ratings.
I would make a message like the one above. often times, doing 5-10 at a time as a copy paste since many people don't leave feedback.
i don't live and die by feedback but it does help receive some benefits when all the effort is put into offering a good product(s) and service(s) to go with.

Enough time to type "thanks"
Plus, people like personalized service, maybe a handwritten thankyou or note enclosed telling the collector to contact the seller first if there are any problems and they will make it right.
As a seller, I have never asked for feedback.
It would be nice to get a higher percentage of feedback from buyers, but what does it really matter if you have 11,000 or 13,000 positives? Are you any less reliable as a seller at the lower number?
As a buyer, I don't see why it's important. As all know, it can only be positive.......so it's mostly meaningless.
i started using the simple bulk method again. glad we had this thread.
.
I always include a personalized thank you note on every order.
I tend to leave feedback for buyers in batches . That means some get it after they paid , some get it after it arrives and some get it 2 months later . As a buyer I always leave feedback because I know its a relief to a seller to know they don't have an issue floating around out there at least with me.
as a seller I will send a reminder after two weeks: "Please don't forget my feedback I work hard to earn it. It's nice for my potential customers to hear from my past customers."
No Way Out: Stimulus and Money Printing Are the Only Path Left
Has this ever resulted in a snarky feedback from a buyer?
That's why I'm afraid to do this.
If you're a seller you should care. Buyers look at a seller's feedback and they will sure as hell care what it is.
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
"Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value---zero."----Voltaire
"Everything you say should be true, but not everything true should be said."----Voltaire
Not worth even thinking about, especially for buyer's feedback. If you are a seller, never ask for it.
In the package or in the feedback?
Just curious.
I put a personalized note in the package.
For higher-dollar items, if the item tracking shows it has been received for a week or so, I'll contact the buyer and just say something like "I see your item was received, and want to make sure you're happy with it."
At least with that, I can be fairly sure they'll be keeping it and I can use the funds from the sale.
My listing software leaves feedback in bulk, so if you pay me and I don't recognize that it's really late, you get a generic positive. That said, a buyer's feedback is totally meaningless other than the potential to handle things differently if feedback shows someone has been around for a week versus years.
Sometimes I'll get an email where the buyer mentions they have 100% positive feedback. That's nice. So does everyone who doesn't sell. It's impossible to have anything but, no matter how good or bad a buyer you may be. Funny, but all the buyers that cause me trouble also have 100% positive feedback.

Did you neg him?
No, but I seriously considered it. I buy a ton of stuff on eBay and some sellers are totally nuts with this feedback thing. The "let sleeping dogs lie" above is the best advice to any of you OCD feedback people.
I'd seriously think of maybe including a nice message in with shipments of how important to you feedback is, how much you are enjoying the hobby and if you could do anything to improve the customer's experience please let you know. Thank you cards can be very effective too, they just cost a little time and make people happy.
I specifically state in my listings that I do not play the feedback game. I leave yours when you pay, If you want to leave feedback for me, thank you but only if you want to.
In this way I think I'm proving to future buyers that read the glowing feedback that I get that it's genuine. I'll never beg.
Hmm... When I see thank you cards from someone I did business with, I begin to wonder if I overpaid or missed something. It reminds me of the time I visited a new ER in town to be sent a thank you note. I paid dearly for that thank you note. The ER charged 2x what some of the other hospitals in town charge.
I see your point; a Chinese shipper sent me a copied out note cautiously asking for any problems to be sent them via ebay communications, etc..
I leave a standard FB for buying and selling. Goal As soon as buyer pays FB left. As soon as receive item FB left. There may be a lag of a couple of days sometimes - I have a life.
I hate being bugged for feedback. If you ask you go to the end of the line. I will leave when I get the time. Right now I have about 20 eBay items I have not even opened up so if I have not opened the box I am not leaving feedback. I do not care if you leave me feedback, I would never ask.

Well today I sold a few pound notes , the buyer paid and immediately sent a message that said
How easy is it to track someone via their feedback and what information can you get?
I always leave feedback when doing an eBay deal., but I don't worry if I get feedback in return. In the end you can only police your own behavior.
