I never understood the enthusiasm for unopened material.
It's called greed. Most of the time
Greed?
I say stupidity.
The above statements seem harsh. Some people gamble on sport, horses, cards, etc... others on unopened material. It's about the thrill and possibility of hitting big like the scenarios Wondercoin stated but that doesn't make us greedy and stupid.
Successful coin BST transactions with Gerard and segoja.
Successful card BST transactions with cbcnow, brogurt, gstarling, Bravesfan 007, and rajah 424.
I have bought unopened proof zets three times. 4 1959 sets that turned out to contain ugly coins in torn cello packaging. Paid a slight premium and was angry with the result.
Next was about a dozen 1961 sets. Before I bought I asked and the dealer agreed to a buy back price for any sets I did not want at $2.00 less than what i paid for the sets. Half the sets I kept because they contained Cameos.
The last time was 50 1964 sets. I picked them up one day, did not open them, took them to a show the next day and sold them for a profit.
I'm a retired Postal Employee. Someone, somewhere definitely got in there. At first I didn't think so, because the center stamp wasn't torn in the middle.
But, yes. The comment above about steaming makes sense.
