Just deleted my "showcase."

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭

I may or may not liquidate coins due to the CAC idiocy, but just to simplify whatever ...I... decide to do, I ...decided ...to dump the showcase just to make the process simpler.

IF there's any process to simplify.

Thanks to all who have contibuted to the various threads concerning CAC.
You all helped me make up my mind.

What little is left of it.

Don't let CAC push you out of collecting. Just ignore them like most of us do and continue collecting like you did before.

It would be a shame to lose someone over something this silly! REALLY!

I haven't and that was my decision.
I shall limp along stashing widgets and stuff.

And the "showcase" wasn't essential to my collection.

    I'm not "pushed out."
Just adapting and changing a few things.
I still consider CAC to be a negative thing as it now stands.
Just vented my opinions on them.

As TDN said, I don't have to LET it affect my collection and I won't give them the power to do so.

I've seen a lot of changes in coin marketing and expect to see more.
    Hopefully, better than they.

I too could care less if a coin has a little sticker or not. I will never pay more for a coin just because it has a silly sticker on it.

As others have said, ignore the latest fad and you'll be fine.

I'm slightly confused and not sure whether to be happy for you because of this epiphany or sad that you have been put in a tough spot.
The showcase should be fun. Where you decide the critera.
Regardless, the coins you've posted here are outstanding.

    Be happy. I am.
The showcase had some coins in it that I no longer own.
3 out of the 5 now gone were beaned.
    Just housekeeping with some simplifying.
The five were just not coins I was crazy about.

I think the CAC only mentality has led to absurd results as suggested in the other threads; however, I do not think it is fair to pin the blame on CAC itself. The negative aspects are due to the reactions and behaviors of market participants. Blind overreliance on plastic is nothing new. This was one of the chief criticisms when the grading services started out. The difference now is that the overreliance is so widespread and the obsession has reached a new level of hysteria. While small grade fluctuations led to pricing disparities before, even smaller fractions of a grade on a very subjective scale are leading to even more disproportionate price increases. Even without CAC, this hobby was already on a bobsled ride to hades. If the coin in a plastic tomb is worth several multiples/a huge percentage increase of what it is worth in a different plastic tomb or raw, caveat emptor.

On a positive note, CAC has done a lot to combat doctoring, so not all of the consequences are negative. Ditto for collector education. John has gone out of his way to help collectors.

What's a "showcase"? What's a "slab"? What do people mean by "sticker" or "bean"?

Those look like nice coins, topstuff! I'd like to get that kind of half eagle and cent for my collection

The "showcase" is a personal virtual "album." You can even turn the pages.

    GAWRSH !!!

It has a cool thingy that will size the holes in the album to whatever coin is in the "hole."

    You can find it here:

    https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/mysetregistry/eula

Annnnddddd.. I just accessed it and saw that it did NOT delete.
But on a second look it was gone.

You have to remove coins if you sell them so there's no conflict wiith someone buying a coin you sell and then being prevented from making their OWN registry album because your album is using the PCGS coin number.
It's easier than I'm making it sound. But I deleted it so I wouldn't be "holding" coins numbers I no longer own.

    whew o:)

You are confusing showcase with the album. Showcase is a place where you can build your own sets with whatever coins you want to put in them.

    Your coins are awesome!

For what reason would CAC convince you to delete your showcase?

Some of those coins are now gone. It wasn't CAC. It was not wanting to use the coins and keep someone else from making an album.
I guess I will remove each coin from the showcase.
That should do what I am trying to do.
