1838 Bust Dime (Counterfeit)

5-pointed stars, UNTED States of America... and of course 1838 (1837 being the last year).
Thought it was share-worthy.

The composition is German silver on all the examples I have analyzed by XRF.

Pretty cool. That could start a whole new specialty area of collecting.
    Error counterfeits!

I'm sure this one was made in the late 1830s or '40s and as such has collector value. The spelling errors give it a boost.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

make them all VF and you can skip all the intricate detail work. spelling would still be required, however.

Someone should have done some homework on the series and spellchecker would help. B)

Yeah, what is their problem with Ted?

a dime bought a pound of beef in the late 1830's making a half dozen of them a week paid for someone to eat

regardless of how many posts I have, I don't consider myself an "expert" at anything
