Not feeling the love on this silver dollar, sorry Mint and lion lovers.

The first strike was done on Nov 9, 2016 at the Philadelphia Mint for these.
I wonder if the first strike coins are known and identified, like TDNs trade dollars.
Love the reverse but the obverse kills it for me.

Here's a profile of Melvin Jones. Would something like this be better?
This is by Julio Kilenyi.
Also, here's an Officer Award from his Birthday Program which is very cool:
Absolutely.....that's a classic look.
edited to add: The Officer Award is très cool.
Not feeling it...

It's George Reeves / Clark Kent / Superman!
pretty good reverse
the size of the obverse pics makes the profile imposing
Is this the first time lions have appeared on a US coin? Yes, yes, of course.
I like the reverse, but will I buy it NO

Depends what you consider a lion, I guess.

I'll be in. Like the reverse as others have said.
If you ever want to see your dog again it will cost you $10,000
I think it is one of the better designed Dollar Commems of recent times. That fact will not help much with sales, which I expect will be anemic, as will the secondary market for them.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Sad...I can't imagine what Teddy Roosevelt would have thought of the obverse.
“I think the state of our coinage is artistically of atrocious hideousness." -TR
How do I say,,,,,,,
Great depiction of a lioness on your half dollar, but it would not be appropriate for the "Lions Club" commem.
Not a fan of the obverse but will buy one for the lions on the reverse. It will join my cats on coins collection. The Vermont half portrays a puma.
No.... I do not like the obverse, and the lions on the reverse look like they are scared of something... Cheers, RickO
@Goldbully ....Good one.... still laughing.. Cheers, RickO
I see another mint failure.

I'm laughing Lahrge!
The lions are better rendered than the lion on that resurrected 2 year old thread on the Brittania. That thing was hideous.
But I dislike the recent trend to use "$1" instead of "One Dollar".
MEL.....VIN !!!!!!
Probably be one of those to do well in the long run as I don't see it selling well out of the gate....
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
This may or may not be a lioness, it was a catamount in the design spec which means it's a panther or cougar or puma or mountain lion or what ever other common name we have for them in the USofA.

Uggh, very ugly and don't like these "privatized" commems that now seem to be on their way, regardless of how good the cause is.
Well, just Love coins, period.
So Euro looking. YUK!!!!
I also don't get why the US Mint should do this, I guess it continues to expand their market...but not with me.
My daughter loves the lion king and lion guard show, she would really dig one.
Our do-nothing Congress did something....
At 400k they will be on sale until 12/31/17....not for me
I do like the reverse though
I like lions, just not the baggage they bring on this one. How about the lion on the 2016 Queens' Beasts? Absolutely superior in 2 ounce format and cheaper from usual bullion seller suspects (MCM, JMBullion, APMEX, Provident, etc.).Can someone post a picture?
Well, just Love coins, period.
Love the Lions Club, but don't think it's the kind of thing that should be on a commemorative (similar to many other orgs that have appeared, in fact). Oh, and blah design. Will pass.
More PC garbage from the mint!
I'm trolling. No one seems to mind the fact there is an African female on the reverse.
That said, I will be ordering one. It looks fantastic.
Please take my alottment!
Well, just Love coins, period.
Got one each UNC & PF USM048534xx
Wow. Had to actually search to see if there was a thread on this one.
I scanned some other coin sites, and many didn't even mention these were going to go on sale, nor did anyone report how many sold.
Over 250% spot is nuts for a coin like this. Numbers on Tuesday will probably tell the tale, but I wonder if they'll sell enough to cover costs... Remember the Girl Scout commem. I don't think the Girl Scouts got any of the proceeds, since they sell enough to cover production costs.
[Looked it up. The GS commem sold 125K (86,354 proof and 37,463 uncirc), and did not sell enough to cover costs, thus the Girl Scouts got none of the proceeds.]
The Boys Town commem is up in a few weeks. (Probably early-mid February.) I suspect we'll see the same excitement for that coin. (I'm out on that one, too...)
Now if they put a horse on the coin, I'd be obligated to buy one for a gift...
Edit to add Girl Scout numbers...
I do like the reverse, and admire their work. Just can't get on board that this is worthy of a commemorative, but there have certainly been less worthy subjects in recent--and past--decades.
I like the reverse!

Total authorized between both coins is 400,000. This could be a looooong slog to a sell out. Any chance of funds seen by The Lions Clubs seem slim.
Not me.
I have a set of the modern commemorative dollars.
I know, I know. What can I say.
So, I guess I am obligated to keep it up.
