Silver bullets in WWII? First I have heard of it. Distilled water necessary after harshly cleaning with toothpaste??? She is genuinely clueless.

I hope she doesn't have thousands of followers, or there is going to be some ruined collector coins. Yeah, and I'm sure they stopped making coins out of silver because they wanted them to be more renewable. Ha ha ha

Yes, they were known as Werekrauts in WWII...something like that, I think I heard.

    Rachel knows what's up.
She uses toothpaste to massage out the spots so the coins can relax and have a nice spa day.

Wow.... I have some rusty proof silver coins.
I have vinegar and toothpaste too.
    Damn, no distilled water.
I guess I'll have to get some...wait, I can just boil some water.
    I'm in business!

Oh muh gawd now I can like clean my coins N things and not ruin em as long as I rinse it with distilled water mmmkay. And if I'm careful and stuff I can probably recycle the vinegar to make a salad dressing with bacteria killing thingies in it because they don't make silver anymore because they need it for other stuff like but they can't find it because no more coins are made of it because they made bullets and things so that's how you clean your coins. Didn't we have a thread not too long ago about how people are being dummied down? I swear its like a practical joke when you see some of this stuff. :*

Wow... unfortunately, this is reality for non coin people. Those not in the hobby believe cleaning coins is required. And this is typical... well, except for the vinegar part... Toothpaste, silver cleaner, scrubbing pad etc., all available and seemingly logical for those not in the hobby. Cheers, RickO

People! Do not do this! it is too labor intensive. Just find and old ink pen that has the eraser on the end. It cuts the rust much faster, the ink eraser has heavier "grit" than toothpaste, and is not near as messy. Plus it will smooth out those sharp lines on the coin that are always cutting your finger...

    Wabbit2313Wabbit2313 Posts: 7,268 ✭✭✭✭✭

Why go through all that? This is faster.

Just bad all around....they were using silver for bullets in WW II and wanted to use something less precious for coins? And that is how incorrect information is disseminated...but hey, it's on the internet!

The only hope is that anyone looking to do anything other than melt any silver coins that they have is that they will recognize that there is not, and cannot be, any rust on them and will not follow the steps outlined in the video.

Maybe that's why the coins get smelly... they have bad breath. :D

If you want to keep sanity don't read the comments section there, so many people are clueless as to what coins are/were made of. Apparently the general public still thinks they minted cents out of silver during WWII. Some comments are so wrong that I can't tell if they are serious or just trolling.
