Ever glance at a coin on a dealers website repeatedly for over a year never pulling the trigger...

As the images are not horrific just kinda funky to the point your not sure if Olivia Wilde would arrive or Sandra Bernhard?

Off topic but are you a farmboy yet?
I would assume if it's been a year and if the dealer does shows..... nobody wants it, or nobody wants it at the price being asked. I don't care what others do, but there is a reason it's there for a year I would think.
Well it's Raw, it's in Europe, and there's a translation communication issue.
If it's UNC and issue free I get it at well under retail... Risky as if catfished I lose a bunch.
Well, you didn't give details.
Oh....I would hope Olivia Wilde. But no....I haven't. If I wonder, I just get it in hand.

Normally, I would call something that old "stale". In Europe, your odds of Olivia Wilde go up. Something is drawing your eye to that coin repeatedly. Go for it!
Not sure I've ever gotten to a year....but I do tend to watch coins of interest for a while. Then they disappear, and I can safely convince myself that "it probably wasn't that great to begin with."
It's all an exercise in mental manipulation.
I'm going to keep watching although the euro to dollar ratio is getting quite attractive.
I went 3 years once and still didn't buy the coin. They had dropped the price over 50% from the first time it was offered to me. It went to major auction 5-6 times over the next 2-3 years being bought back each time. It became so stale that after 6 months I lost all interest in ever owning it....though I followed it to the bitter end. What a shame to ruin a decent coin like that.
If I kept going back to it, I would buy it and take the gamble... if it was only a passing interest as I viewed the site on a regular basis... I would just skip it. Cheers, RickO
Got picture?
Yes. A dealer had a fairly nice 1875 PCGS PR-64 Cameo Twenty Cent Piece that I needed for my set. I looked at it a couple of times over a year's period. Finally I made him a counter offer and he took it.
Been watching a coin for about five months now. Finally decided I should get myself a stocking stuffer
I have looked over and over for what seems like a year at an overpriced toned commemorative owned by a dealer who posts here. I emailed that dealer several times about it and his price was still ridiculous.
Last time, I asked him to send it to CAC. If it stickered, I promised him an offer. It is still for sale and I have yet to hear back from him.
Hey: You, dealer, know who you are! PM me is you want to sell that coin.
Well I pulled the trigger and bought it...
Then just now got shipping notification it's been mailed to the wrong state nearly 1600 miles away.
Ugh Bah Humbug!
I'm assuming you've had a second set of non competing eyes take a look at it?
No just finally had someone that spoke some English confirm a return policy.
Not sure if I'll even get it now or if it will just be lost in transit and I'll get refunded?
Hope it arrives as expected!

Update: Surprisingly it arrived as the wrong state was on the label.
It was photo shopped to the max!!!
As once on in hand without having a minuscule identification spot I thought they sent the wrong coin.
Shipped back and will never buy from this dealership again as this was beyond night and day.
Lesson learned go with your gut feeling as there's a reason you stayed away so long.
Catbert thanks for the photo of Olivia Wilde as glancing at that suddenly makes everything better!
Sorry to hear of this. I could have gone the other way, so I don't think you can learn a general lesson from such an ( awful) experience.
bjamin, It was really bad as when I took the chance I knew it could either be worth 3 times what I paid or 1/3 what I paid...
What arrived was worth 1/10 what I paid photographed overexposed before it was juiced in photoshop.
There are a few dealers out there who have scads of coins I'd buy, but I just can't swallow the asking prices. If prices are uniformly higher than what similar coins bring in a Heritage auction, I'll just buy them at Heritage, right? I don't want to get buried in every item I purchase. So yes, there are dealers whose sites I visit frequently without purchasing, just hoping in vain that I'll find a fairly priced item that fell through the cracks.
I get it, but just adding that i buy coins off of dealer's websites & the bay all the time viewing horrendous photographs and hoping the coin in hand turns out better otherwise right back it goes. Taking the chance is wha tit is all about, you did the right thing and now you know otherwise it would have forever bothered you. Nothing lost in the process other than some shipping costs and disappointments, but now you know.
Glancing?

Sorry this one didn't work out for you. I hate having to return a coin. I've gotten stuck with a few Bernhards this way myself but have a lot more Wildes to show for being willing to take a risk.

So, Sandra Bernhard in a Rosie O'Donnell costume, then?

Thank you and appropriate and cool quote from the good ole guys of yesteryear, thanks!
Worse!
True as I would have always wondered?
It was a costly expenditure sending it back to Europe registered insured, but a huge weight was instantly lifted walking away from the USPS counter.
I hate it too but actually keep packaging supplies in the car and this went back in mere minutes after arriving.
I have been to several coin dealers sites and not bought any of their stuff...way outta my league...but still nice to look at.
