It was years ahead of itself, but finally starting to come into its own. With $600 million contracts with both Amazon and Wal-Mart, it has some good years ahead, not to mention the possibility of FedEx truck range extenders and ground support equipment at airports. China is also a big possibility. Meantime, have plenty of aspirin sitting around, especially at quarterly report time when it inevitably gives back its gains for the quarter.
Could be another close finish this year, the 2013 contest was a photo finish, decided by a mere $141 ... as opposed to 2015, when 1st won by several lengths

comrade b, do have have a list of the yearly winners handy?
I thank you, but now, it's 3stars and s4ny that have things swapped...
Going down to the wire for me on this, as I am way out in the regular race here.....no on the bottom, not on the top, and no longer really dead center in the middle.... I suck

Not handy, but will compile some lists and stats over the next couple of weeks

Market is up what 20-25% this year and 21 of the 37 contestants have losing positions.
Of course, before you posted, you were smart enough to know what the goal of the contest is/was for many, right?
While some wanted to go for the top, that wasn't the stated goal in the OP.....
"At the end of the contest, I will donate a 1 oz silver bar, ASE, etc. to the person with the _lowest _portfolio balance."
(bolding and italics were my doing)
So, the winner of the OP's original purpose is likely to be johnnycache...with the OP actually coming in "2nd" (from the bottom).

I don't have a computer
My suggestion would be no options and long positions only.
Bears could be effectively short by being long an inverse ETF.
At the least, a short should have a minimum price of $5.
I shorted a $1 security, but it would have been very hard to borrow
to have a real short position.
If I did it, I'd make both shorts and options over $1 to limit the market moving potential of large orders
Also no FX, no futures and no futures options
There's hope. Tesla is going to melt down!
I knew it would happen.
Thanks Wings,
I'm up 3 tics and said the 4th quarter is my VE day (Victory in Equities). We'll see!

Only 5 weeks to go!
Baley could pull this out.

SurfinxHI, you're killing me here! Good job, but I had you as 5th and was rocking the top 5 picks that way....you're killing me, dude
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Plug Power, the Yoyo stock of 2018.
No capital gains tax for me, this year.
I clicked the YTD chart and said wow. Then the 5 year chart and said Wow!
Then the "Max" chart and said WOW!!

Your welcome.
If today holds up, back to #2 for me. This is going to be very close!
LOL

@Bochiman. Gotcha beat by a mile
Amazing spread of results, from -100% to +100+%, with surprisingly large gap between 5th and 6th.
Will be an interesting 3 weeks, good luck!

To win a contest like this, it pays to take unusual risks
JohnnyCache could have easily bet lineq long and been solidly at 0%
Others could have done similarly to tie.
I'm thinking the next contest needs to ban bankruptcy stocks for this reason.
Picking the top 5 was easy
future contests should ban cryptocurrencies like bitcoin and related instruments
Why? Most of the pros here know they're going to go down in an umbra of tulip pedals.

We need a leader for next year’s contest. Volunteering??
I am thinking about it
Spreadsheet - check
Rules & Methodologies - unsure
I also wonder if my limits would scare people off. (Like no stocks already in bankruptcy)
That’s one of the benefits. Your game, your rules. And you can wait to see everyone else’s picks before you post your own. Worked great for me!
Go for it. I think, the simpler the better, but that's just me.
As Wings said just above....."your game, your rules". If people don't like your rules, they don't need to play.

LoL, "picking" them might have been easy, but doing it in time was more difficult. Predicting them correctly, now that's the tricky part..

PLUG is driving me nuts - keeps bouncing around $2.40, which is where I hit 100% gain for the year. Hopefully I'm on the plus side of it on the 29th!
Rocking a +103.4% at this time.
Cheers to all!

HALO is going to blow my top 5 picks
We could possibly have a tie for first this year. PLUG keeps dancing around the 100% mark with three days left.
Wow, makes the call 6 weeks early, when i was in 5th place!
It's almost like he can read a chart and spot a trend of relatively steady accumulation.
Nice game and year to all, and best wishes for 2018!
