This copper Albert Collis restrike was posted for the weekend which got me thinking.
I've only seen the copper restrikes. Are the whereabouts of the other metals known? Have they appeared in recent auctions?
CoinFacts reports the following mintages by Albert Collis:
- Platinum (1)
- Lead (1)
- Gold (7)
- Silver (22)
- Copper (5,019)

Never seen anything but the copper. Have handled the die in the ANA Museum.
I own two of the silver restrikes, didn't know the mintage was 22, but I knew it was rare.

Very cool @RichieURich. Did you pick them up at the same time from the same seller?
No, I got one from Northeast Numismatics about 10 years ago, got the other one a couple years later but I don't recall the seller.
The restrike looks nice in copper, but really nice in silver.

Bowers & Merena's April 1986 sale (S Levine)had a hoard of these peices, in copper (40 pieces in 5 lots), off-center copper (15 pieces in 7 lots), silver (6 pieces, 1 per lot), and gold (3 pieces, 1 per lot).

Great info @Aegis3. 30 years since an appearance of the gold pieces is impressive.
I always find it amazing how when questions are asked here, informative replies fairly flood the thread... One can learn several new things almost daily on this forum. Cheers, RickO
Oh, I should be clear. These were just the appearances which immediately came to my mind on reading this thread. There are likely more recent appearances; but that's something I'd actually have to look up.

PCGS now has a pop of 1 for the silver Collis Restrike! Anyone run across any of the other metals like platinum or gold?
Here's the silver:
Here's the text from the original page on CoinFacts.com since it's no longer there:
Do we know what happened to the transfer die?
@CaptHenway did you ever see the die while you are at the ANA?
Read above
Ah, you answered it already. Must have been fun to work at the ANA!
Other than the floggings to improve morale...........
Ouch! I can't believe I missed this one!
Someone got a great rarity for a great price!

The transfer dies were destroyed. See attached PDF of the Numismatist (Aug. 1959), page 2, 2nd column. The one in the ANA museum must be the original die. @CaptHenway , what say you?
Great article and info @MWallace! It’s really nice to see Albert’s own original writing!
What's interesting is that it doesn't actually seem to say the dies were destroyed. It says they were defaced by a grinder, which seems like it can also mean that they were x-cancelled or something similar, leaving the door open for the dies still existing in some identifiable state.

Nice pickup by someone back in ‘19.
Here’s mine, still unslabbed. Obtained in ‘03 from Rosa Americana in San Diego:
